Description
Our client is one of the largest commercial banks in Rwanda offering innovative products and services to customers across the country. It has a large network and strong capital and liquidity position driven by its strategic growth agenda.
The bank is looking to identify results-driven, visionary, strategic thinking and highly qualified leader with excellent credentials, proven experience, demonstrated capacity, and know-how to fill the position of Chief Commercial Officer.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Chief Commercial Officer will be responsible for the development and implementation of commercial strategies of the Bank, including overseeing the commercial lending portfolio, taking the lead in defining policies governing commercial aspects of the business and its operations and ensuring that the business fulfils the overall budget. In addition, the incumbent will also be responsible for staying abreast on industry and regulate changes, trends, and news in order to ensure competitiveness, product, pricing, compliance and policy alignment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of strategies to drive market adoption of new products launched.
- Develop operational plans that will lead to increased market share in key selected economic sectors and portfolio diversification.
- Lead implementation of sound business practices with focus on maintaining quality loan portfolio, low non-performing loan ratio, competitive interest rates and a healthy profit and loss account.
- Assess business, financial, human resources and technology risks within the division and ensure that they are monitored and minimized.
- Monitor market trends, provide regular competitor analysis and draw insights to inform management decisions.
- Develop and oversee adherence to policies, procedures to ensure compliance with national and international regulations and taking corrective action when necessary.
- Prepare, monitor utilization and report to the Board, short- and long-term financial plans, including annual operating budget.
- Prepare standard and customized performance reports for the commercial division and present to executive management, board committees and regulatory bodies.
- Set and cascade comprehensive goals and key performance indicators and effectively manage staff performance.
- Build a culture that is inclusive and fosters teamwork, integrity and strong ethics to facilitate excellent customer service.
- Build and maintain relationships with key customers, collaborators, promoters, partners, vendors, banking industry executives, shareholders, and stakeholders.
- Advise the Managing Director on all strategic commercial matters.
- Monitor market trends, provide regular competitor analysis and draw insights to inform management decisions.
- Track progress against business generation strategies for Retail, Treasury, Corporate, SME and Digital Banking.
- Provide guidance to the teams under supervision to ensure targets are met with due diligence to operational procedures, guidelines and policies.
- Manage stakeholders to unlock/ promote the commercial units’ activities as per strategy.
- Oversees the preparation of divisional budgets for presentation to the Managing Director and the Board.
- Conduct periodic review to ensure overall expenditure is within budget.
- Investigate reasons for budget variance and establishes ways to reduce the variance.
- Responsible for leading the achievement of financial targets across the business departments.
Person Specifications
- Be a holder of a Bachelors’ and Master’s degree in Business Administration, Banking, Finance, or relevant field from a recognised University
- Possess a relevant professional qualification in e.g. ACCA, CPA, CFA or any other in banking or relevant field
- Have at least a minimum of 10 years’ relevant work experience, five (5) of which should have been spent in senior management and/or leadership role preferably gained in a financial services sector organization
- Be business and IT savvy
- Demonstrate leadership and people management skills
- Possess strong analytical and decision making competency
- Have ability to drive execution of commercials strategies and plans
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
