    M&E Officer

    Monitoring and Evaluation Officer is responsible for observing and ensuring high-quality and timely inputs, and for ensuring that ELRF maintains its strategic vision by ensuring high survivability for the planted trees.

    KEY DELIVERABLES:

    • Data collection, analysis and Interpretation Accuracy in data management
    • Excellent analytics skills Quality Reports

    KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILLITIES

    • Monitor planted trees to ensure at least 90% survivability; Monitor daily trees planted and share progress reports; Collects data on a regular basis to measure achievement against the planted trees;
    • Monitors the input of data into the ELRF system and conducts data quality checks; Supports programme progress reporting, mid-term review and final evaluation; Identifies lessons learned and develops case studies to capture qualitative outputs of programmes, projects, and initiatives. Provides advice to the management on improving programme performance using M&E findings;
    • Assists with M&E training initiatives to strengthen capabilities within ELRF.; Performs field visits to ensure the quality and accuracy of collected or reported data where necessary;
    • Prepares progress reports on the on-going project;
    • Design and implement baseline environmental and socio-economic impact report templates for each planting site, managing for cultural sensitivities and appropriateness;
    • Design and develop training tools necessary to mobilize field team to gather on-the ground socio- economic and environmental data relating to ELRF's results and reports;
    • Regular monitoring the equipment needs for each planting site to ensure they are consistently prepared for field analysis;
    • Support analysis on new planting sites to inform issues and risk exposure reports;
    • Visit planting sites on rotation to help ensure project is on track;
    • Maintain and regularly update all data sets, GIS mapping software and communication tracking
    • systems to ensure deliverables and other important information is tracked and available.
    • Monitor ELRF activities and outputs on a regular basis and assist the management team in preparing project progress reports.
    • Assist forestry department with tracking the effectiveness of failures forest restoration planting techniques.
    • Plant Grow Protect Conserve
    • Provide key information and reports to the M&E Coordinator so that the management can maintain strong relations with all donors and business partners.
    • Any other duty assigned by the Immediate Supervisor.

    Required Basic and Soft Skills

    • Climate change understanding climate change impacts on forests and ecosystems.
    • Forest ecology, knowledge of forest ecosystem, tree species & ecological processes

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor Degree in Forestry, Monitoring and Evaluation, Natural Resources, Coastal and Marine Resources Management.

    Experience

    • At least 2 years relevant experience in a busy environment.

    Site Forester

    JOB PURPOSE:

    • A Forester is a professional responsible for conducting technical forestry work, collecting forest data, and ensuring the health and management of forested lands.

    KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Lead and oversee day-to-day operations of the planting team, nursery team and motivate them to do their work efficiently.
    • Ensure that the headcount at the planting, propagules collection and nursery teams are commensurate with the set daily activities and targets.
    • Work with Deputy Chief Forester (DCF) to establish large scale mangrove nursery.
    • This includes choosing species, developing timelines for propagules/seeds collection, propagation, and planting based on seasonal weather patterns at the Coast.
    • Assist the nursery and planting teams in troubleshooting mangroves propagation, germination, and survival issues in nursery beds and planting sites.
    • Assist to develop propagule collection and planting work rosters, delegate duties and noting cases of absenteeism and reporting to DCF.
    • Scout for mangrove forest blocks with mature propagules and guide the propagules collection team to those blocks so as to maintain surplus of propagules collection to meet the daily targets.
    • Oversee and record daily planting updates including species, total propagules/seedlings planted, photos of the planting activity.
    • Work with DCF to coordinate transportation and on-time delivery of propagules to other sites lackingthe propagules and coordinate their planting schedule.
    • Oversee the security of planted mangroves in the field and ensure any issues of propagules uprooting and/or harvesting of mature mangroves are addressed immediately.
    • Any other duty as assigned by the Supervisor.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor Degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, Coastal and Marine Resources Management.
    • Experience in Mangrove Ecosystem is a must.
