    Child Protection Monitor

    Vacancy No: HRTK/CPM/05/2022 

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    HIAS seeks to recruit Community Child Protection Monitors who will assist in provision of social interventions and assistance to the most at risk and vulnerable refugee children.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Identify and document child rights violations, refer cases to the appropriate authorities, and provide regular follow-up on each case
    • Participate in community awareness raising and dissemination of information
    • Assist in the implementation of appropriate interventions for at-risk refugee and asylum seeker children through activities such as placement in alternative care arrangements with foster families, emergency shelter placement, etc.
    • Make referrals for vulnerable refugees to access services
    • Assist in the provision of direct assistance to refugee and asylum seeker children in the community
    • Provide translation for refugees during activities as needed
    • Mobilize community members for forums and sensitization campaigns
    • Provide weekly and monthly reports indicating progress in relation to targets and client needs
    • Provide basic trainings to beneficiary groups in: Refugee Rights, Child Rights, Gender-Based Violence, and other protection related issues as determined by the Program Supervisor
    • Attend regular staff meetings, trainings and other meetings as required

    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

    • Entry level with minimal work experience, preferably with an NGO.
    • Experience in the field of refugee Child Protection will be an added advantage.
    • Basic literacy in English and at least one language prevalent in the refugee community in Nairobi
    • Well integrated to the dynamics and needs of refugee children within their areas
    • Good working knowledge of the community needs and gaps
    • Ability to work with members of the community with little or no supervision
    • Computer literacy
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Strong counselling skills
    • Strong training skills in child protection and community development will be an added advantage
    • Experience in the field of refugee Child Protection will be an added advantage.
    • Proficiency in English and preferably Kiswahili, Somali and Congolese languages. Proficiency in English is MANDATORY.

    Temporary Intake Counsellor

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    HIAS seeks to recruit a temporary Intake Counsellor; the incumbent will be expected to contribute towards meeting the departmental goals, aimed at promoting resettlement as a durable solution for the most at risk refugee populations*.*

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Prepare individual comprehensive physical case files for clients, complete intake forms and ensure proper filing of individual case files for resettlement consideration
    • Reporting to the Resettlement officer on progress of set indicators on a bi weekly basis
    • Conduct individual counselling to clients on the HIAS internal resettlement process and HIAS anti-fraud policy
    • Attend case counselling sessions for individual clients with the aim of providing clients with timely and accurate feedback on the status of their cases
    • Facilitate and participate in trainings on resettlement and anti-fraud, including but not limited to preparing training materials and conducting research
    • Prepare Resettlement Referral Forms and send to the Resettlement Officer for review
    • Conduct follow up for cases referred to external referral partners and provide timely updates on the status of the follow ups
    • Drafting court documents
    • Preparation of project reports
    • Fill in the various resettlement forms
    • Maintain a database and an individual case management strategy for cases under resettlement consideration
    • Assist in the development of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials on anti-fraud and resettlement case processing
    • Perform other duties as and when required

    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

    Education

    • University Degree in Law, (Those in final year of study are also eligible)

    Skills

    • Proficiency in English and Swahili
    • Computer literacy a must - knowledge of MS Office required;
    • Strong advocacy, research, capacity building, legal drafting and report writing skills;
    • Strong coordination, communication and interpersonal skills;
    • Knowledge in AAP
    • Knowledge in PSEA

    Temporary Groundskeeper

    Vacany No: HRTK/T-GK/05/2022 

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    HIAS seeks to recruit a Temporary Grounds Keeper who will be responsible for cleanliness and ground maintenance of HIAS Offices when needed.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Ensuring that yard work and maintenance of outdoor areas is carried out to the recognized satisfactory standard and at the frequencies laid down by the organization and ensuring that all work is carried out safely.
    • Keeping the compound clean, trimming the fences, trees and shrubs and tending to the flowers
    • Ensure that routine repairs and maintenance of offices is carried out to the recognized satisfactory standard and at the frequencies laid down by the organization and ensuring that all work is carried out safely.
    • Drawing to the attention of the appropriate authorities, any repair or maintenance work required at the offices.
    • Record every incident/accident that occurs in the building, e.g. power failure, water seepage, alarm ringing, and notify those responsible for appropriate follow-up action

    QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

    Education

    • Kenya Secondary School Certification

    Experience

    • Experience as a Grounds Keeper or in related field for not less than 1 year

    Skills

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Outstanding customer service skills
    • Proven ability to work effectively individually and with a team
    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
    • Knowledge of Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP)
    • Knowledge in PSEA
