    Electrician- Thika Campus

    Qualification

    • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent.
    • Certificate in Electrical Installation, Electrical Technology, or Electrical & Electronics Engineering from a recognized institution.
    • Government Trade Test (GTT) Grade III in Electrical Installation (Class C Wiring) or equivalent.
    • At least two (2) years’ relevant experience in electrical installation and maintenance.
    • Experience in an institutional or commercial environment will be an added advantage.

    Key responsibilities also include

    • Troubleshooting, maintaining motors, transformers, generators, lights/ appliances electric controls, fire arms and clock systems and other system equipment and components, in compliance with electrical systems, Standards and regulations.
    • Ensuring fire alarms and emergency electrical systems are operational and performing certification testing on alarm systems
    • Installing, troubleshooting and repairing new equipment and systems, including all campus lights and programmable lighting controls
    • Monitoring work done by outside contractors for adherence for National
    • Electrical Code requirements and reports back to the supervisor
    • Assisting in writing of specifications for repairs and new construction
    • Operating a variety of electrical testing equipment in locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions
    • Studying plans, drawings and specifications and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs and/ or installations
    • Any other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Manage the daily operation of the library’s automated systems and workstations, remaining on call at all times.
    • Design, implement, and integrate daily operations of the library’s automation and communication systems, including the innovative interfaces system, LANs, web server, internet access, telecommunications, and related evolving systems in consultation with the Deputy Director, Management Information System.
    • Design and maintain the library website as a marketing tool for library operations and services.

    Qualification

    Must have:

    • Master’s degree in Law from a recognized/accredited university in the relevant field
    • Be registered for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law or equivalent Doctoral degree qualification

    Reporting to: Dean, School of Law

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Participate in curriculum development and review.
    • Prepare course outline to guide in the effective delivery and coverage of the syllabus.
    • Develop learning content to ensure adequate coverage of the course outline.
    • Teach Undergraduate, Diploma and Certificate courses.
    • Set, invigilate, administer examinations to test the understanding of course content and give progressive report to the Department.
    • Supervise students’ projects and attend defence meetings to enable them complete their studies successfully.
    • Carry out research, prepare publications and participate in conferences to disseminate knowledge generated.
    • Attract funding to the University to support research.
    • Facilitate field studies and assess students during attachments/trips/ internships.
    • Participate in official University meetings and functions.
    • Monitor class attendance sheets to ensure that students sitting for the examinations meet the required lecture attendance of more than four-fifth of all lectures before they can sit for their examinations.

    Must have:

    • An earned PhD in Law or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant area of specialization from a recognized/accredited university;

    OR

    • Master’s degree in Law (for special cases outlined on MKU teaching staff appointments and promotions guidelines, 2020) with 3 years teaching/industry/research experience;
    • Expected to have registered for a PhD degree in Law, and have successfully covered more than 85% of the course work.
    • At least three (3) years teaching experience at university level;
    • At least 24 publication points of which 16 should be from refereed scholarly journals
    • Be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Adherence to the teaching requirements as per the curriculum.
    • Administration of Continuous Assessments Tests.
    • Examination Setting, Administration & Marking.
    • Deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through the preparation of teaching materials, the preparation of class methodology or activities, and the actual delivery of the curriculum in class.
    • Keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline or professional practice of the Subject area, and share this knowledge to shape curriculum content, design, and delivery.
    • Ensure that content, methods of delivery and learning materials meet the defined learning objectives and that they are regularly reviewed for opportunities for improvement.
    • Ensure timely student assessment through the preparation, moderation, administration and marking of examinations.
    • Guide students at undergraduate and graduate level in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development and supervision.
    • Ensure that accurate student records, including registers, reports, student assessment and achievement are updated in the Academic Management System.
    • Identify sources of funding through grant writing to advance research portfolio at the school.
    • Engage in publishing papers as well as attending, participating, presenting papers in workshops, conferences and professional seminars.
    • Collaborate with other researchers internally, nationally and internationally, for purposes of establishing research linkages and contribute to attainment of the school’s research objectives.
    • Responsible for administrative duties when called for including at not limited to leadership of academic programmes, membership of different committees, or being part of the management of the school.
