    Quality Assurance and Lead Mentor

    Position Overview.
    We are seeking a skilled and collaborative Lead Mentor to join our leadership team. This role will focus on supporting teachers and students across the school with responsibilities that include strengthening teacher practice through coaching, evaluating, improving and implementation of processes across the team and classes, and working in partnership with parents and caregivers.

    Key Responsibilities.

    • Strengthening teacher practice through effective coaching and evaluation.
    • Mentor and coach teachers through observation, reflection, and professional dialogue
    • Support new teacher on-boarding and ongoing faculty development
    • Improving and implementing evaluative processes across the team and classes.
    • Co-lead faculty meetings and collegial processes
    • Working in partnership with parents and caregivers to foster a supportive educational environment.
    • Role Flexibility: There will be some flexibility in the responsibilities of this position. Duties will be shaped and negotiated with the successful candidate to best meet the needs of the school and the individual.
    • Administrative Support: The position will involve a number of administrative tasks including teacher appraisals and student assessment.
    • Collaboration and Mentorship: As an integral member of the wider leadership team, the Lead Mentor will work closely alongside the heads of each Community of Practice, acting as both mentor and coach.
    • Ideal Candidate Profile: This dynamic role is suited to an educator with strong leadership capacity and good communication and interpersonal skills. Ideally they should have taken a class through from Class 1 to Class 8 at least two times.

    Qualifications and preferred skills.

    • Master’s Degree in Education, Education Administration and Curriculum Planning (added advantage).
    • Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or equivalent qualification.
    • A Diploma in Waldorf / Steiner Education is an added advantage.
    • Registered with Teachers Service Commission is Compulsory.
    • Excellent in both verbal and writing skills with demonstrated experience of both.
    • An assertive and ethical team player with practical knowledge of pedagogical systems and processes and the ability to work under pressure and meet set deadlines.
    • Strong grounding in child development and developmentally appropriate practice.

    Class Two Teacher

    Position Overview.

    The Waldorf Class Teacher is a central figure in the life of the school and the primary guide for a class of students through multiple years of their elementary education. Rooted in the principles of Anthroposophy and Waldorf education the class teacher nurtures the physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual growth of each child. This role combines academic instruction with artistic, social and moral education tailored to the developmental stages of the students.  The teacher is also a bridge between the students, their families and the broader faculty, helping to build a cohesive and supportive learning community.

    Key Responsibilities

    Develop Appropriate Curriculum Delivery

    • Class teachers are expected to strive to understand the model of child development that underlies the Waldorf curriculum, and coupling this with study of the curriculum itself, the curriculum standards of the school and an awareness of the class and community attributes, plan lessons for the grade level of their students.
    • Main lessons and special classes be planned and taught such that attention is following these attributes;
      • Balance of thinking, feeling and willing activities
      • The conveyance of enthusiasm for the subject and for learning
      • A balance of directed and independent work
      • Presenting the children with challenging, age appropriate work
    • In addition to main lessons, class teachers are responsible for planning and teaching form drawing, music, painting, drawing , modeling and skills or practice periods in which the main lesson learning is practiced and reinforced. Class teachers are also responsible for handwork or craft lessons.
    • Ensure written plans are prepared each year which include the order of main lesson blocks, goals for the students, development of academic, artistic, physical and social skills and daily and weekly class schedules.

    Engagement and Participation

    • Provide a conscious model of responsible behavior that together with loving authority and discipline, conveys to them a living sense of reverence and gratitude.
    • Develop the ability to work with the class as a whole, while concurrently being aware of individual needs.
    • Observations are to be made of the class as a whole and of individual children, the children are to be taken into the teacher’s meditative life.
    • Ensure full attendance of weekly faculty meetings, section meetings and in service days as scheduled.

    Assessment & Reporting

    • Class teachers are expected to interact with parents with honesty, courtesy, warmth and professionalism, working with them to promote awareness and understanding of their child’s school experience, as well as to foster the parents development as a supporting and protecting calyx around the development of the class as a whole.
    • Ensure to actively employ good communication skills in working with parents and conduct parent teacher conferences according to school’s schedule at which they strive to form a shared vision of the child with the parents, discuss all aspects of the child’s progress in school, mutually share concerns and discuss means of working with concerns.

    Professional Development & Contribution to School Life

    • Working together with faculty colleagues sharing observations, questions and insights to support each other’s professional and personal development.
    • Contribute to the development and review of departmental resources to ensure the department meets the evolving needs of students and the school.
    • Ensure the physical environment of their classrooms is creating a place that is inspiring for learning by giving care to the beauty, artistic aspects, cleanliness and order of the room and for the shared school building and grounds.

    Creating a Collaborative Learning Environment

    • Encourage group work and collaborative projects where students can share ideas, learn from one another and develop teamwork skills.
    • Facilitate peer reviews and cooperative learning activities where students can reflect on each other’s work and learn through feedback and interaction.

    Desired Qualifications & Experience:

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education.
    • Must be registered with TSC.

    Experience:

    • Familiarity with current teaching methodologies.
    • Experience and training in teaching children

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Classroom Management: Effective strategies for managing diverse classrooms and ensuring all students engage in the learning process.
    • Technological Competency: Proficiency in using educational technology tools to support language instruction and student assessment.
    • Adaptability: Ability to adjust teaching strategies to accommodate the needs of different learners, including those at different language proficiency levels.
    • Cultural Sensitivity: Deep understanding of the cultural nuances of both English- and French-speaking regions and the ability to incorporate these into lessons.
    • Collaboration: Strong team player with the ability to collaborate with other educators, parents, and the broader school community.

    Working Conditions:

    • The position is based at the Karen campus.
    • Teaching hours are typically from Monday to Friday, with occasional extra-curricular or evening commitments for cultural or language events.

    Head Chef

    Position Overview.
    This position entails preparing, cooking and serving food in accordance with defined standards and quality regarding Health, safety and hygiene legislation and in line with the school’s Health and Safety policy with the aim of achieving high standards of customer care and good quality at low cost.

    Key Responsibilities

    Supervisory

    • Preparing, cooking and serving food to meet the specifications as defined by the school. Tasks include: meeting the meal requirements of the staff, students, special emergency and function catering.
    • Ensure that all service staff have full knowledge of dishes regarding ingredients, cooking method and correct portion sizes.
    • Meeting all statutory requirements for The Nairobi Waldorf School Trust and City Council of Nairobi by laws.
    • Supervising and assisting with cleaning duties as required including general washing up and clearing away.
    • Monitor food quality and ensure that all meals meet necessary health and safety standard.

    Administration.​​​​​​​

    • Monitoring, organizing and maintaining appropriate stock control levels in all areas including records of monthly stocktaking.
    • Ensuring the Schools Health & Safety policy and all relevant Health & Safety legislation is applied effectively to all activities undertaken by members of the Catering Department.
    • Work with school administrators to plan menus that meet the needs of students with specific dietary needs such as allergies or religious restrictions.
    • Ensure effective use of all resources amongst the catering team enabling the smooth running of the catering operation.
    • Establish systems and procedures in all areas to monitor, maintain and improve upon the standards of the product and service.

    Performance.

    • Following the Head of Kitchen & Cafeteria’s instructions in producing and serving food to meet the school’s nutritional standards.
    • Train, supervise and evaluate kitchen staff by ensuring food handling procedures and sanitation guidelines are followed.
    • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen following proper cleaning and sanitation procedures to maintain the highest level of hygiene.
    • Closely collaborate with school administration to plan and coordinate food service during events and activities when required.
    • Advising of any repairs needed to equipment.

    Health and Safety​​​​​​​

    • Ensure staff are instructed and trained in the correct and safe operation of all kitchen equipment and chemicals.
    • Ensure that risk assessments are in place for all relevant hazards and working procedures, and ensure that all staff for which responsible are familiar with safe working practices and understand the importance of complying with them.
    • Ensure that all food is stored, handled, prepared, processed, cooked and served in accordance with the highest standards of food hygiene at all times.
    • Establish a comprehensive cleaning program to ensure that all catering areas and all equipment and machinery are maintained in a clean, hygienic and safe condition throughout and at the end of each working day, with regular deep cleaning as required.

    Staff Management​​​​​​​

    • Supervise the team to ensure all staff related issues are being handled appropriately, including induction, training, performance management, grievances and ongoing mentoring for all aspects of fulfilling a catering role.
    • Conduct annual appraisals for the team, identifying areas for improvement, setting new targets and formulating training plans to improve skills etc.
    • Effectively lead and manage the catering team to establish a good communication, share best practice and ensure the department always delivers the required level of service.

    Qualifications and preferred skills.

    • Diploma in Hospitality Management. A degree will be an added advantage.
    • At least 5 years of working experience in leadership role in a fast-paced organization.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information
    • Ability to prepare variety cuisines and menus.
    • Meticulous.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
