  • The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) is a public body established by the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) Act, 2016. It previously operated under the State Corporations Act (Cap 446) of the Laws of Kenya by Legal Notice Number 171 of November 24, 2011. The Act gives the NDMA the mandate to exercise overall coordination over all matters relating to drought risk management and to establish mechanisms, either on its own or with stakeholders, that will end drought emergencies in Kenya.

    TWENDE Landscape Coordinators - 3 Posts

    Position Summary/Purpose

    The Landscape Coordinator will be responsible for facilitating and supporting the effective implementation and coordination of TWENDE Project activities at the landscape and county levels. The role entails working closely with the County Drought Coordinators (CDCs), IUCN Project Management Unit (PMU) Executing Entities, and Service Providers to ensure alignment with project goals around climate resilience, ecosystem-based adaptation, and sustainable rangeland management.

    Job Specification
    Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

    • Coordinating and supporting the implementation of TWENDE project activities within the assigned landscape (Sabarwawa/Mid Tana or Chyulu Hills).
    • Supporting the CDCs and PMU in Landscape-level Planning, monitoring, and reporting.
    • Facilitating participatory land-use and restoration planning with local communities, counties, and stakeholders.
    • Integrating climate-smart and ecosystem-based adaptation practices into landscape development.
    • Supporting county-level service providers to align interventions with national and county policies.
    • Monitoring compliance with environmental and social safeguards and tracking fieldlevel implementation.
    • Maintaining the project Milestone Tracker Tool and submitting landscape coordination reports.
    • Coordinating landscape-level forums, including County and Landscape Coordination Meetings.
    • Mapping and engaging stakeholders implementing similar initiatives in the landscape.
    • Ensuring timely submission of technical reports and contributions to donor reports.
    • Supporting the documentation of project lessons learned, success stories, and best practices.
    • Participating in training and capacity-building activities organized under the TWENDE project.

    Person Specification

    For appointment to this position, the candidate must have:

    • Master’s degree in either Range Management, Agriculture, Livestock, Economics or Agricultural Engineering Rural Development Studies, Mathematics, Statistics, Environmental Management, Developmental Studies, Agricultural Economics, Community Development, Information Science or Project Planning and Management from a recognized institution.
    • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, Forestry. Range Management, Agriculture, Livestock, Economics or Agricultural Engineering Rural Development Studies, Mathematics, Statistics, Environmental Management, Developmental Studies, Agricultural Economics, Community Development, Information Science or Project Planning and Management from a recognized institution.
    • A minimum of seven (7) years relevant professional experience in landscape management, rural development, or climate adaptation or stakeholder engagement.
    • Proven experience in stakeholder coordination, participatory planning, and sustainable land use practices.
    • Knowledge of climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, and rangeland restoration.
    • Experience with donor-funded projects implementation will be an added advantage.
    • Strong communication, facilitation, and report writing skills.
    • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office; GIS skills are desirable.
    • Ability to travel frequently and work in diverse and sometimes remote locations.

    TWENDE Driver

    Position Summary/Purpose

    The function of Drivers entails: Under the supervision of the Project Accountant(PA), the duties include driving and maintenance of project vehicles. He/she will be responsible for driving the staff within and outside the duty station. Part of this will be in the arid and semi– arid counties where NDMA county offices and project activities are implemented. Assisting the Project Accountant (PA) in the undertaking office, administrative and clerical duties assigned to him/her; Assisting the Project Accountant in processing relevant payments such as daily subsistence allowances, local travel reimbursements to staff, and other stakeholders attending meetings, workshops or other project-related events within and outside the duty station; undertake messenger duties within the office.

    Job Description
    Duties and responsibilities will entail:

    • Assisting project accountant with clerical, transport logistics, and office administrative duties such as photocopying, filing, record keeping, receiving, filing, and distributing official correspondence
    • Receiving, transmitting, and making office telephone calls, fax transmissions, and scanning of official documents
    • Assisting Project accountant and other project staff in office, administrative, and clerical duties such as facilitation of meetings, workshops and seminars, on a need basis, processing of payments such as night out allowances, lunch allowances, bus fare refunds and other project expenses, under the supervision the project accountant.
    • Driving project staff and other stakeholders for local and field missions relating to implementation of project activities, in various parts of the country.
    • Recording all trips made by project vehicles in the official work ticket form 
    • Ensuring the work ticket is submitted to immediate supervisor for regular review, and storage
    • Meeting and transporting visitors and other stakeholders working with the project from time to time.
    • Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of project motor vehicles allocated to him/her, checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres and other accessories, including performance of minor repairs and arranging for other repairs.
    • Scheduling of regular/ periodic maintenance and repairs (minor and major service and repairs) of project vehicles allocated to him/her
    • Preparing Back to Office forms for self and assisting officers to prepare their Back to Office forms/claims for missions undertaken.
    • Assisting the project accountant in the stamping of paid-out finance documents and sequentially filing the same and in the preparation and arranging of financial documents for audit
    • Performs other ad-hoc duties that may be allocated by the project accountant or project staff from time to time 

    Person Specification

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

    • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean Grade D or its equivalent qualification;
    • Occupational Trade Test I/II/III for Drivers;
    • Valid driving license with endorsement free from any current endorsement (s) for the class(es) of vehicle(s) Class (s) B, C, and D with driving experience of 8 years.
    • First-Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than one (I) week from St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution.
    • A certificate in the customer care course will also be an added advantage
    • Proficiency in computer applications
    • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct.
