    Fitter

    Description

    Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Fitting, Assembly & Installation

    • Fit, assemble and install mechanical components, machinery and equipment in accordance with technical drawings and specifications.
    • Carry out alignment, adjustment and replacement of mechanical components using appropriate tools and measuring instruments.
    • Perform authorised cutting, grinding, welding and basic fabrication activities as required.
    • Support installation, modification and commissioning of machinery and plant equipment.

    Maintenance & Equipment Repair

    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on plant machinery and equipment.
    • Inspect, diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise equipment downtime.
    • Replace defective components and restore equipment to operating condition within approved standards.
    • Support breakdown response activities and equipment recovery efforts.

    Equipment Inspection & Condition Monitoring

    • Conduct routine equipment inspections and report abnormalities promptly.
    • Check equipment condition, component alignment, fastening and lubrication requirements.
    • Support condition-monitoring and equipment-care activities.

    Safety, Health, Environment & Compliance

    • Comply with HSEQ requirements, Permit-to-Work and LOTOTO procedures.
    • Use prescribed PPE and maintain safe working practices at all times.
    • Report hazards, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions promptly.
    • Maintain housekeeping and workplace organisation standards in line with 6S requirements.

    Maintenance Documentation & Communication

    • Complete job cards, maintenance reports and inspection records accurately and on time.
    • Communicate equipment condition, work progress and unresolved issues to the Mechanical Technician.
    • Collaborate effectively with Production, Maintenance and Engineering teams to support operational requirements.

    Continuous Improvement

    • Participate in TPM, 6S, Kaizen and maintenance improvement initiatives.
    • Contribute practical ideas that improve equipment reliability, safety and operational efficiency.
    • Support implementation of approved maintenance improvement actions.

    Requirements

    Minimum RequirementsQualifications

    • KCSE Certificate.
    • Government Trade Test Grade III in Mechanical Fitting or equivalent Mechanical Fitter qualification.

    Added Advantage

    • Craft Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or Plant Maintenance.
    • Training in welding and fabrication.
    • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
    • Knowledge of 6S and Autonomous Maintenance.
    • Experience in the steel, manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.

    Experience

    • Minimum three (3) years' relevant experience in mechanical fitting, plant maintenance or industrial equipment repair.
    • At least two (2) years' experience maintaining industrial machinery and equipment.
    • Experience in a manufacturing or steel-processing environment will be an added advantage.

    Key Competencies

    • Mechanical fitting, assembly and installation skills.
    • Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting capability.
    • Welding, fabrication and workshop skills.
    • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical specifications.

    Crane Operator

    Description

    Overall Purpose of the Position 

    To carry out crane operations safely and efficiently, maintain equipment in optimal condition, and strictly adhere to safety protocols to support smooth material movement and operational continuity. 

    Key Performance Areas 

    • Operate cranes safely and efficiently to support production, dispatch, and maintenance activities.  
    • Conduct daily crane inspections and accurately document findings to ensure 100% safety compliance.  
    • Apply safe load-handling practices to prevent injuries, equipment damage, and material deformation.  
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free working environment in line with the 6K housekeeping standard.  
    • Secure coils using Chooks with felt pads and handle lifting accessories correctly to preserve material quality.  
    • Report any crane malfunctions promptly to minimize downtime and ensure timely repairs.  
    • Support maintenance teams in troubleshooting to enhance equipment reliability.  
    • Promote a strong workplace safety culture by reporting near misses and safety observations.  
    • Perform additional duties assigned by management to support continuous improvement. 

    Requirements

    Minimum Requirements  

    • Minimum academic qualification: Craft Certificate lifting equipments.
    • Added advantage: Basic Engineering trade training, computer literacy, and a valid Crane Operator Certificate from a recognized institution. 
    • Minimum 3 years general work experience.  
    • At least 2 years’ experience operating cranes, preferably in mining, manufacturing, or related industries.  
    • Experience in manufacturing or engineering environments is an added advantage. 
    • Key competencies: Achievement-oriented and proactive, Strong problem-solving and creativity skills, Safety-conscious with excellent attention to detail, Ability to work independently or as part of a team, good communication skills in English and Swahili. 
    • Personality attributes: A conscientious, punctual, and hardworking individual who can work both independently and collaboratively.

    Bearing Assembler

    Description

    Key Responsibilities

    Bearing Assembly & Roll Preparation

    • Assemble and disassemble work rolls, backup rolls, chocks and bearing assemblies in accordance with approved procedures and production requirements.
    • Install, align and prepare bearing assemblies and rolls for rolling mill operations.
    • Operate approved equipment used for bearing mounting, dismounting and roll preparation activities.
    • Perform shot blasting and preparation of rolls in accordance with established work instructions.

    Inspection, Maintenance & Equipment Care

    • Inspect bearings, chocks, seals and associated components and identify wear, damage or abnormalities requiring attention.
    • Clean, lubricate and replace worn or defective components in accordance with maintenance requirements.
    • Conduct routine equipment checks and report abnormalities requiring technical intervention.
    • Support maintenance activities aimed at improving equipment reliability and performance.

    Quality & Process Compliance

    • Verify assembled components against approved specifications, tolerances and quality requirements.
    • Use measuring instruments to confirm alignment, fitment and component condition.
    • Maintain accurate inspection, maintenance and equipment history records.
    • Identify and report non-conforming components and quality deviations.
