    Legal Counsel (Compliance)

    Principal Accountabilities
    Delivering high quality and professional advice and support to SCI Country Offices and Global Teams on a diverse range of legal issues, including:

    • Advising senior stakeholders across the organisation on legal, regulatory and compliance matters
    • Supporting the Head of Legal Compliance with the team’s strategy and annual planning, including overseeing the development and roll out of compliance frameworks across the organisation
    • Representing the Legal Team at other cross-functional meetings and on other committees as appropriate 
    • Preparing papers for SCI’s Audit & Risk Committee 
    • Leading on the development and delivery of training on legal compliance risks 
    • Managing potential disputes made against SCI and supporting with internal investigations as and when appropriate 
    • Leading on the compliance aspects of humanitarian responses 
    • Managing advice from and relationships with SCI’s external law firms and helping SCI stakeholders to interpret and apply such advice. 
    • Undertake line management as appropriate and / or proactively undertaken the mentoring of more junior members of the team. 
    • Carry out any other legal duties either additional to or instead of those outlined above which may be reasonably required.

    Experience and Skills
    Essential

    • Senior level post-qualification experience gained in private practice or in-house in one or more of the following areas: sanctions, export controls, bribery laws, charity law, modern slavery or other regulatory areas or in dispute resolution 
    • Demonstrated ability to business partner with a function / team / client to understand their priorities and to come to pragmatic, legally appropriate solutions 
    • Sound judgement and ability to manage multiple stakeholders and tasks in a pressured environment. 
    • Skilled at applying technical expertise to solving problems in a practical way. 
    • Strong time management skills and ability to work efficiently to tight deadlines
    • Strong inter-personal skills and proven ability to communicate technical and complex information and ideas effectively to different audiences  
    • Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English 
    • Calm disposition and positive outlook, particularly when working under pressure 
    • Team player with a full appreciation of collaboration 
    • Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Save the Children. 

    Desirable

    • Knowledge of international development / humanitarian and / or charity sectors 
    • Experience working in an international organisation 
    • Experience operating in a range of jurisdictions, including instructing overseas counsel.
    • In-house experience 
    • Ability to work in another of SCI’s core languages, aside from English (French, Arabic or Spanish) desirable but not essential

    Legal Counsel (Program Delivery)

    Principal Accountabilities
    Delivering high quality and professional advice and support to SCI Country Offices and Global Teams on a diverse range of legal issues, including:

    • Advising SCI’s Country Offices in one or more of its five regions, providing timely, pragmatic and solutions-oriented legal support, including acting as Regional Legal Business Partner for one of those regions if required;
    • Advising Global Teams and senior stakeholders on matters of global scope or implication, including on legal risk and governance-related matters;
    • Advising on the legal aspects of scaling up programming operations, in particular, in a humanitarian crisis;
    • Advising on issues arising under Save the Children’s own internal framework;
    • Managing advice from and relationships with SCI’s external legal advisors and helping SCI stakeholders to interpret and apply such advice;
    • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of contracts (including partnership agreements, goods and services contracts, and other legal frameworks with Governments, multi-lateral agencies, United Nations agencies, private sector and other NGOs), including providing advice and legal support to other Global Teams Business Partners, Country Office and Global Teams stakeholders and wider Save the Children constituents. This could include leading on complex commercial contracting for our Supply Chain and Transformation Delivery functions; 
    • Taking the lead on identifying opportunities for training and new legal tools to manage and mitigate organisational risk, developing and delivering such training and tools; 
    • Taking the lead on legal team initiatives, for example relating to managing and fostering pro bono law firm relationships, identifying training and mentoring opportunities within the legal team;
    • Advising on legal compliance areas such as fraud, sanctions and anti-terrorism, either working in conjunction with SCI’s legal compliance team or independently (as required and as appropriate); and
    • Undertake line management if required (formal or informal) and/or mentoring of more junior members of the team.

    Specialist, Data Governance

    Principal Accountabilities

    • Implement and maintain data governance policies, standards, and procedures across the organization 
    • Collaborate with business functions to embed data governance practices and build capability through training and ongoing support 
    • Develop and execute data quality monitoring processes, identifying and coordinating the resolution of data quality issues 
    • Establish and maintain data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metadata documentation to ensure consistent understanding of data assets 
    • Support the management of data governance forums and communities of practice to facilitate knowledge sharing 
    • Assist in defining and implementing appropriate data access protocols in partnership with IT 
    • Measure and report on data governance effectiveness, identifying opportunities for improvement

Experience with metadata management and data quality tools is helpful. Demonstrated expertise in Power BI, including handling large volumes of data and building insightful dashboards to support quality monitoring and decision-making.
    • Cultural Competence: Ability to work in diverse and inclusive environments, respecting various cultural perspectives and ensuring equal opportunities.

    • Degree or equivalent

    Desirable

    • Educational Background: A degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Business, or a related field is preferred. A postgraduate qualification, such as a master’s degree, may be advantageous.
    • Certifications: Relevant certifications like Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or equivalents can be beneficial in demonstrating expertise in data governance and related areas.
