    Research Assistants Database

    Role Purpose 

    The Research Assistants will work directly with the supervisors to collect data during different research and evaluation studies and any other data entry job within Wajir County while called upon. The successful candidates will be retained in our rota database for a period of one-year renewable subject to performance. The engagement will be on need basis. 

    Key Areas of Accountability 

    • Working with communities where the studies will be implemented to mobilize community members targeted during the interviews using appropriate channels. 
    • Conducting both qualitative and quantitative interviews (FGDs, KIIs, In-depth interviews and household assessments) for various studies and assessment. 
    • Collating data from all the tools and working with supervisors to ensure that data collected is of high quality 
    • Working with MEAL team to troubleshoot data collection tools 
    • Submitting of all data through the provided platforms, e.g. ODK/KOBO and other survey forms as guided by the supervisor. 
    • Support in Office Clerical work at the support departments. 
    • Submitting daily field reports on progress to the supervisor during catch up meetings. 
    • Reporting any child protection/ safeguarding issue encountered during the assessment/study. 

    Qualifications: 

    • Diploma or Certificate in IT, Community health/development, Social Work, Health records or any other relevant field. 
    • Bachelor Degree in IT, Community health/development will be added advantage. 
    • Strong research experience in both qualitative and quantitative research (focus group discussions, in-depth interviews and key informant interviews) 
    • Experience using information communication technology (ICT) with reputable research organizations/INGOs will be an added advantage 
    • Fluency in English and Kiswahili both written and oral. 
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal and report writing skills. 
    • Computer literacy, particularly in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
    • Knowledge and experience in health systems and community structures is preferable. 
    • Local understanding of geographical context and Language will be added advantage

    Financial Management System Admin Intern

    The Opportunity

    Save the Children International Kenya Country, office has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as FMS Administration Intern. The role holder will be responsible for developing and maintaining existing & new modules of the Finance Management System (FMS) implemented on Agresso. The primary focus will be on implementing new functionality in the FMS system, as directed by the SCI global strategy. The role holder will also be responsible for being part of the 2nd & 3rd line support queue, helping support analysts to resolve problem which require source code analysis, or advanced business knowledge The FMS Admin Intern will work closely with country, regional and centre based finance teams to provide reporting and analytical information to assist in the running of an efficient and effective finance global function The FMS Admin Intern will work with the FMS Technical Architect and other FMS Developers in other locations to provide a reliable, scalable and performant Agresso system to all SCI countries and those members that participate in the shared service. The candidate will be provided with on the job training and experience as part of Transformation delivery projects. The role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

    Qualification and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field such as IT, Finance, Mathematics (candidates without such qualifications will be considering if they can demonstrate appropriate technical skills as shown in the experience and skills section)
    • Proven technical skills in a mainstream programming language, or database system (cross training will be provided if required)
    • Good T-SQL language skills
    • Strong understanding of the business processes of a financial Management systems preferably an ERP
    • A desire to work on an enterprise level ERP / finance system based on the Microsoft stack (Windows Server, .NET, SQL Server, IIS)
    • Ability to explain complex technical and non-technical information in a succinct and compelling manner to all levels of seniority

    Humanitarian WASH Officer (Engineer), BHA (2 Positions)

    The Opportunity

    Save the Children International Kenya Country Office, has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as WASH Officer (Engineer). The role holder will be responsible for the design, implementation, follow up and evaluation of WASH infrastructure construction and rehabilitation in communities targeted by Save the Children in the region of Garissa and Wajir counties. The post is specifically oriented towards the WASH emergency response in the context of the crisis HoA Drought Response. Special attention will be made ​​on the integration of the WASH sector in other core sector of Save the Children such as nutrition, food security, health, education and child protection.In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

    Contract Duration: 6 months (Humanitarian)

    Qualification and Experience

    • Professional experience of 4 years minimum, including 2 years in the field of WASH infrastructure construction in humanitarian or development context.
    • Solid and progressive management experience working in an emergency response contexts or fragile states
    • At least Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Water and Sanitation Engineering, Public Health Engineering.
    • Registration with the Engineering Board of Kenya is essential.
    • Previous experience in managing integrated Health and WASH activities in a public health programme
    • Previous experience of project management, implementing integrated Health and WASH projects within agreed timescales and budget limitations
    • Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability in an emergency integrated Health and WASH context
    • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation
    • Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports
    • Excellent communication skills

    Outreach Assistant, Humanitarian (BHA) (17 Positions)

    The Opportunity

    Save the Children International Kenya Wajir and Garissa Office, has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as Outreach Assistant The role holder will be in charge of managing integrated health and nutrition outreaches in various location in Wajir and Garissa counties. S/he will support nutrition mass screening programmes on partnership with the sub-counties health officials and other partners at the community level. S/he will ensure that outreach is done in line with MoH and SCI standards. Oversee outreach mobilization programmes, and support the MoH to collect and collate date for outreaches. S/he will also ensure effective referral system between the outreach site and link health care facilities. .In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

    Contract Duration: 6 Months (Humanitarian)

    Qualification and Experience

    • Qualified nurse with primary health care / community health care experience, Public Health, or Nutrition
    • Bachelor of Science qualification will be added advantage.
    • Experience of emergency nutrition work (preferably CMAM) and implementation of feeding programs, including monitoring and evaluation.
    • Experience in conducting nutrition assessments and an understanding of nutritional surveillance and information systems
    • Proven capacity of management, leadership and teamwork
    • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathise with all beneficiaries and their carers
    • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions

The role holder will be responsible for safe driving of vehicles and staff for Save the Children Kenya programme. He/ She should ensure proper maintenance and cleanliness of vehicles in compliance with safe driving standards.  Ensure the vehicle has enough fuel in time for trips and carry out proper management of fuel supply for the assigned vehicle in accordance with SCI policies and procedures .In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

    Qualification and Experience

    • Literacy and numeracy skills of “ O “ level education
    • A clean driving licence minimum class BCE
    • Ability to multi task and work calmly under pressure is essential for this position.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in an insecure environment is critical
    • Some practical experience of user vehicle maintenance.
    • Those with defensive driving skills, first aid training will have an added advantage.
    • Recommended minimum of 3-5 years’ experience of professional driving experience in an NGO or similar environment, including significant field operations experience running both emergency and development programs
    • Fluency in written and spoken English. Similar skills in Kiswahili and other local languages an advantage
    • Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work with incoming teams in the event of major emergencies.
