Requirements for Appointment
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:-
- Served in the grade of Chief Driver CSGI I/JG ' J’ for a minimum period of three (3) years;
- Passed Occupational Trade Test I for Drivers;
- A valid driving license free from any current endorsement(s) R)r class(es) of vehicle(s) the officer is required to drive;
- Defensive Driving Certificate from the Automobile Association(AA) of Kenya or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- Attended Refresher Course for drivers lasting not less than one (1) week within every three (3) Years at Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHGT) or any other recognized Institution;
- A valid certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police;
- Attended a First-Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than one (1) week from st John Ambulance or KenYa Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized institution; and
- Demonstrated outstanding professional competence in work performance and results.

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Mean grade 'D’ plain or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
- A valid driving license free from any current endorsement (s) for class (es) an officer is required to drive;
- Attended a First-Aid Certificate lasting not less than one (1) week at St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution;
- Passed Suitability Test for Driver Grade III;
- Passed Practical Test for Drivers conducted by respective Ministry/ Department;
- A valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police; and
- At least two (2) years driving experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
- This is the entry grade into the cadre. The artisan function entails undertaking improvement of works: repair works and maintenance of Government building in the area of specialization (Carpentry, Masonry, Painting and Plumbing). In addition, the function entails preparation of repair and maintenance
- schedules, managing maintenance workshops and facilitating other technical personnel in more complicated technical assignments.

- Government Trade Test Certificate Grade III in the area of building or equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized institution
