    Psychosocial Counsellor

    Overall Purpose

     

    Psychosocial Counsellor will perform psychological screening, primary mental status screening, and complete mental health assessment for clients. He/she will be responsible for successful implementation of all psycho social activities, including the provision of direct counselling and case management, training and supervising SGBV Community Workers to respond to cases of SGBV in the camp and ensure effective case management.

     

    Responsibilities for the Psychosocial Counsellor Job

     

    • Performing psychological screening, primary mental status screening, and complete mental health assessment for clients in the context of SGBV.
    • Preparing and implementing counselling plan by providing quality counselling sessions for the client and their family/caregivers in the frame of therapy.
    • Assessing the need of support group activities, activity sessions; planning, developing and executing these accordingly.
    • Collaborating closely with the medical staff and social worker; refer to them according to clients’ needs
    • Identifying clients requiring advanced psychological assessment and care and referring such clients to appropriate professionals
    • Providing psycho-education sessions for clients, their families and community members when needed
    • Ensuring complete documentation of all cases; provide reports monthly and analysis of clinic data quarterly
    • To provide support to vulnerable individuals/children/families with protection concerns in the process of psychosocial support and case management.
    • Plan, design and monitor the overall implementation plan (weekly and monthly) of the SGBV Response Activities;
    • Develop trust, tolerance and co-operation among community members through peer – led focus groups discussions and awareness sessions;
    • Plan, design and monitor informal skills training, SGBV trainings and life skills training to facilitate the development of self-management, decision making and self-help processes among the target population;
    • Prepare and submit activity progress reports including weekly, monthly SGBV & SITREPs
    • Contribute to the development of project proposal, concept notes & sector publications

     

    Psychosocial Counsellor Job Qualifications

     

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Counselling or Psychology
    • 2 years of experience in counselling related to SGBV case management particularly in humanitarian crisis.
    • Strong communication skills: oral, written and presentation skills.
    • Should be a team player and culturally sensitive.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and utilization of the internet.
    • Demonstrate ability of proposal/budget making.
    • Excellent report writing skills.
    • Strong leadership, team building, conflict resolution and ability to deliver the Society’s strategic objectives.
    • Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations.

    Sexual Violence Prevention Officer

    Overall Purpose

     

    Reporting to the County coordinator, the Project Officer is Responsible for effective planning, budgeting and implementation of the Sexual Violence in Informal settlements Project in Nairobi. Other responsibilities include building and strengthening partnerships with key partners and other stakeholders, creating synergies, referral linkages and enhancing collaboration and networking.

     

    Sexual Violence Prevention Officer Job Responsibilities

    Designing, planning & implementation of Strategies for preventing & responding to SGBV

     

    • Conduct community sensitizations on the goals, objectives, activities and implementation of the Project as well as partner with stakeholders.
    • Developing and maintaining positive and professional working relationship with partners
    • Collaborate with relevant National and County Government Departments to ensure successful implementation of project activities
    • Facilitate and organize training programs aimed at creating awareness and building the capacity of the target community to implement social mobilization, provision of PSS to survivors and violence prevention strategies
    • Build community partnerships, identification and mobilization of potential violence survivors as well as building the capacity of volunteer community leaders to support the project.
    • Participate in the design, development, implementation awareness and sensitization campaigns aimed at equipping and strengthening staff, volunteers and communities with capacity to mainstream Sexual Violence Prevention in their programs.
    • Maintain awareness of budget and expenditures in order to manage the program within budget
    • Provide guidance on effective budget utilization among supervisory units
    • Coordinate the acquisition of project resources and closely track the budget in line with the approved financial projections and work plans
    • Conduct gender-focused BCC activities that will lead to a reduction in harmful practices
    • Establish effective referral/patient-transport system.
      Establish Project Steering Committee in the project sites and ensure linkages with HQ Project Steering Committee
    • Implement the Project in the target County ensuring effective integration with county health and development plans, systems and service delivery structures;
    • Familiarise with local issues related to Gender Based Violence and support the volunteers and relevant project staff to develop sensible and feasible ways to influence positive change
    • Ensure at the field level that project volunteers and staff have necessary tools for implementation of the planned community work including relevant adapted IEC materials

     

    Project Monitoring & Evaluation

     

    • Analyzing, compiling and submitting monthly SGBV reports to the County Manager and Programme Manager
    • Contribute to the development of project proposal, concept notes & sector publications
    • Regularly monitoring of activities and provide feedback for adjustment of activities as needed.
    • Ensuring that assigned projects achieve set goals, objectives and outcomes
    • Assisting in mid-term or end of project evaluations on SGBV project impact
    • Conducting regular block and home visits to assess and verify activities
    • Establish Project Steering Committee in the project site.
    • Develop and implement clear handover/exit strategy to relevant ministries.

     

    Report writing & documentation

     

    • Prepare periodic progress, quarterly and annual reports showing achievements against planned targets as well as providing justification for performance variances and areas of improvement
    • Developing annual procurement plans and timely procurement of project items
    • Keeping inventory of all items in the project implementation site disaggregated by age gender
    • Assisting in the preparation of the programmes’ operation plans/work plans & reviews

     

    Staff supervision

     

    • Hold monthly sessions with project volunteers and prepare weekly work plans for the project
    • Assigning tasks to project volunteers to ensure effective, efficient and timely implementation
    • Provide project volunteers with counselling support and mentoring.
    • Fulfil any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

     

    Qualifications for the Sexual Violence Prevention Officer Job

     

    • Degree in Social Services/ Gender/ Psychology or equivalent qualifications
    • In-depth experience and understanding of mainstreaming prevention and response to
    • Gender Based Violence into programming including provision of PSS
    • At least two (2) years field experience, preferably with an NGO and or MoH.
    • Strong background in training and commitment to capacity building.
    • Ability to find solutions to complex problems in a challenging environment.
    • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
    • Project management skills including PMER
    • Coordination and networking
    • Excellent written and spoken English.
    • Strong computer skills Flexible, ability to work both as an individual and as a team leader and under stress in what can be a harsh environment.
