    Diagnostic Technician/Field

    Purpose

    The Diagnostic Technician/Field is responsible for all activities related to:

    • Phytosanitary in the farm
    • Work hand in hand and communicate with all the relevant departments within the site

    Key Responsibilities

    • Ensure cross boundary working through team work and cohesiveness among the different phytosanitary teams i.e. Disinfection and Scouting.
    • Ensure full compliance and adherence to all phytosanitary protocols, audits, rules and regulations in the farm; and ensure all phytosanitary protocols are updated and uploaded into reliance.
    • Create awareness and sensitize employees on phytosanitary matters through trainings, workshops, etc.
    • Coordinate inspection of all greenhouses prior to disinfection and give a phytosanitary approval for planting.
    • Ensure proper protocol handling during an outbreak of a Q-pest or disease.
    • Coordinate all disinfection and scouting activities in the farm.
    • Follow up on all phytosanitary non-conformities in the farm and ensure they are addressed.
    • Lead the KECU phytosanitary Emergency Team (PET) during outbreak of a Q- pest/disease or other major outbreak.
    • Ensure all phytosanitary reports, checklists and KPI’s are sent to the EA phyto lead on time.

    Qualification

    • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Crop protection, Horticulture, Agronomy, Microbiology, Biology.

    Experience

    • At least one year experience in plant pests and diseases.

    Field Production Manager

    Role Purpose
    • Manage a 5.5 HA Syngenta owned site producing indeterminate tomato seeds
    • Implement and manage the operational activities of key agronomic processes and procedures 
    • Lead the farm management for all operational activities, agronomic, technical, quality, budgets, costs and compliance
    • Work with the site management of Pollen Kenya and contribute to the smooth functioning of the shared services on site
    • Manage 3rd party tollers in East Africa (Kenya & Ethiopia) for producing seed and manage the team overseeing this operation. 
    • Deliver to plan for yield, cost & quality. Ensure compliance of all the accreditations of the farm, GSPP & ISO 
    • Guarantee that all Field production activities on the farm and externally meet the Syngenta HSE&Q standards aiming for a zero incidents
    Accountabilities 
    • Delivery the Crop Plan agreed (Volume, Cost, Quality and Time)
    • Lead, motivate and inspire the team on the farm to deliver on quality on time in full production (QUOTIF)
    • Work closely with the supply teams, for delivering on plan, support the pathology department and the Seed production specialists
    • Assure effective controlling programs are in place with the right set of KPIs aiming to guarantee the operations will be kept on track towards reliability, quality and budget targets
    • Be a part of the Kenya Pollen management team and support the smooth functioning of shared services
    • Focus effort to increase yield and improve yield reliability to reduce costs and production risk
    • Manage relationships with 3rd party  growers and vendors with support from procurement
    • Manage the stakeholders in a way of communicating the main development activities timely and accurately, avoiding last minutes surprises and crises
    • Implement and keep updated all the related systems and reports to assure a clear and precise information flow for the next production steps
    • Work on people development aiming to empower and motivate them within Syngenta and with their careers assuring that key positions in the succession plan are populated
    • Ensure field production teams (Syngenta & third party) comply with Syngenta standards of HS&E
    Qualifications
     
    Experience required
    • People management- given the number of FTE on the farm, this is an essential skill
    • Financial acumen- Good knowledge in setting up budgets, driving efficiencies and delivering on budget promises
    • Farm management- previous experience in running a farm will be an added advantage
    • Agronomic experience- Minimum of 5 years work experience in an agronomy related job
    • Work experience in Africa will be an added advantage
    Minimum education and critical knowledge required
    • Educational qualification - Minimum requirement- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy/ Technical or finance
    • Good knowledge of English is a must. Proficiency in other languages is an added advantage

    Accountant

    Role purpose
    • Support Country SBS Finance to secure a solid bedrock for finance activities.
    • Support Finance SBS to deliver high quality set of accounting data to facilitate group, statutory and tax reporting
    • Support Finance SBS with delivering Finance SBS services (as defined in global policies and process standards) to local Business, with specific focus to statutory and local tax related processes
    Accountabilities
     
    Operational responsibility
    • Compile and analyse financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts.
    • Entering daily transactions to the existing accounting software in this case SAP.
    • Prepare & compute withholding taxes and other statutory deductions in accordance to the Law.
    • Prepare both bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
    • Maintain proper records for all tax returns which should be readily available and fully support all tax returns.
    • Timely submission of statutory returns and which need to be made on a monthly/quarterly and annual basis including VAT,WTAX, PAYE all in Itax, NHIF, NSSF,DIT,HELB etc.
    • Maintain and verify payroll records (for inconsistencies based on verification parameters like gross pay, advances, cost recoveries, bonus/OT).
    •  Keeping track of Payroll Liability accounts including reconciling the same with the Payroll Officer.
    • System master data maintenance.
    • Preparation and participating in both the internal and statutory/external audit.
    • Perform intercompany reconciliations.
    • Budget preparation and cash flow statements and coming up and implementing internal control systems.
    • Maintain Accounts Payable records and verification of invoices before payments.

    Qualifications

    To this end the main purposes of this role are:

    • A Bsc in Agriculture degree or higher is critical for this role

    • Extensive knowledge of the Agricultural sales environment, including customer set up, distribution networks in North Rift Region.

    Technical Support Lead

    Role Purpose
     
    Leads the development of organisational capability within the region to deliver production, processing and quality efficiency improvements in accordance with the defined global PPT leads and Crop Strategies.
     
    Accountabilities
    • Lead a group of scientists/ agronomists /technicians/ project managers to drive continual improvement in multiplication & processing assets

    About this job
    • The purpose of the NSPP technician is to support the NSPP specialists  in Kenya Pollen to deliver the targets set by the breeders for all crops (cereals, vegetables, corn and sunflower)
    • To develop experience and knowledge of the basic skills associated with plant nursery and seed production operations management, with specific focus on disease management, scouting, corrective actions and testing / on process improvement.
