Transcribers - Somali speaking Job at Busara Center for Behavioral Economics

Key Requirements:

Required

1. Must be fluent in English (written, verbal), Somali (written, verbal), and Kiswahili (verbal)
2. Basic computer knowledge and skills (mandatory)
3. 1-2 years working experience
4. Keenness for details/detail oriented

Desired

1. College diploma in Social Sciences, Economics, Development studies, Public policy, Business Administration or related fields
2. Strong qualitative analysis with past experience, including knowledge of thematic analysis or past work experience
3. Past working experience in media and script development
4. Past experience in translating and transcribing
5. Have the following qualities: are diligent and organized, have a positive attitude, are active and respectful listeners, have strong interpersonal skills,
6. Typing Skills (minimum typing speed of 30 WPM.)
7. Able to work with minimal supervision/autonomously

General Interpreter Duties

1. Translate Somali scripts to English quickly and accurately.
2. Translate comments and notes from script editing process.
3. Add input to the script editing process regarding the Somali context.
4. Translate developed English survey instruments to Somali.
5. Translating and transcribing recorded interviews.
6. Translating and back-translating protocols and interviews.
