    Senior Programme Officer

    This position is located in the UNEP Corporate Services Division (CSD) in the Nairobi Duty Station. Under the direct supervision of the Diretor,CSD, the incumbent will be responsible for the following:

    Programme Officer Job Responsibilities

    Finance Administration:

    • Manages the financial administration and substantive issues of Multi-Lateral Funds (MEAs) as the UN Environment Focal Point.
    • Coordinates activities related to MEAs budget and funding and ensures preparation of related documents/reports.

    General Administration:

    • Supervises preparation of various written outputs, e.g. background papers, analysis, substantial sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
    • Directs substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.
    • Manages outreach activities; designs and conducts training workshops, seminars, etc., makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
    • Leads field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc.
    • Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and ensures preparation of related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
    • Serves as an effective spokesperson and establishes collaboration and partnerships with key officials at all levels inside and outside the organization.
    • Ensures effective utilization, supervision and development of staff; Guides, evaluates and mentors staff

    Qualifications for the Programme Officer Job

    • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics or a related field. A first university degree with a combination of two years professional and academic qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
    • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area. Experience in financial management and operational support and planning at the international level is highly desirable.

    LCE English - Interpreters

    LCE English Interpreters Job Responsibilities

    • Services up to seven meetings per week (exceptionally eight), usually of no more than three hours duration, of various United Nations bodies.
    • English interpreters provide interpretation into English of speeches given in French and Russian or Spanish.
    • May occasionally be assigned to sensitive meetings.
    • May function as team leader of all interpreters assigned to a given meeting.
    • May perform other related duties, as required.

    Qualifications for the LCE English Interpreters Job

    • Hold at least a three-year first level university degree from a recognized school of interpretation in which at least one full academic year is devoted to interpretation.
    • Alternatively, applicants must hold a three-year first level degree or an equivalent qualification from a university or institution of equivalent status at which English is the language of instruction, and have 200 days of experience as conference interpreters or 200 days of work experience in the fields of translation, editing, verbatim reporting or other related fields.
    • The Board of Examiners may, at its discretion, admit an applicant graduating from a university whose principal language of instruction is other than English provided he/she has adequate secondary educational qualifications from an establishment at which the principal language is English.
    • Work experience as conference interpreters and/or work experience in the fields of translation, editing, verbatim reporting or other related fields will be an asset.
