Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Support conventional agricultural extension methods which employ small packs, on-farm demonstrations, farmer field days.
• Work with village-based advisors within the context of AGRA’s private sector-led approaches to agricultural transformation, in AGRA countries.
• Together with country staff, work with regulators, government and private sector to oversee and push penetration of mobile phones, video, mobile money, and other forms of electronic communications to smallholder farmers to support sustainable farming practices.
• Working with like-minded organizations, AGRA Partners, government and service providers, work towards overcoming the barriers represented by distance, lack of infrastructure, and cognitive gaps related to the use of improved technologies and marketing methods.
• Ensure the messaging and services offered through the use of ICT is genuinely relevant and useful to smallholder farmers, and is not a distraction.
• Position AGRA as a leading force in the identification, delivery, and scaling up of farmer-relevant information technologies and services.
• In line with overall organization vision and strategies, drive AGRA’s five-year strategy to reach 9 million smallholder farmers in Africa with improved technologies for achieving higher yields and better marketing opportunities to improve their productivity.
• Act as AGRA’s ICT liaison for agricultural development.
• Attend technology for development forums and workshops and continuously enhance knowledge and update existing systems and platforms as required with modern and relevant applications.
• Together with other program teams, drive farmer/stakeholder education and awareness on technologies that exist to enhance their production and productivity.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the process of institutional strategic planning and drive AGRA’s strategy performance management:
• Support the design of AGRA’s organizational strategy and Theory of Change for transformation.
• Develop strategic frameworks, models, tools and processes ttrack and critically analyse delivery of the strategy; recommend adaptive strategies based on results/evidence, lessons learnt and insights gained, in the face of changing ecosystems.
• Working closely with the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team, help drive better decision making and performance through the development of effective country and institutional level performance tracking tools; and critical analysis of results ttease out relevant and actionable recommendations.
• Work with key operational units tensure strategic alignment, business efficiency, resource allocation, internal capacity building etc. are effected.
• Support in-country teams with strategic planning and roll-out, as well in-depth analytics on agriculture transformation pathways and country progress towards this goal:
• Work with Geographic Service Team (GST) / Country leads and technical teams tdevelop and support execution of high-impact country-level strategies and implementation plans.
• Provide analytics support tGST’s and in-country teams tsupport evidence-based decision making; strategic selection of initiatives; credible engagement with governments and other partners; and assessment of the progression of country agriculture transformation.
• Scope and grow AGRA’s analytics capability via partners / external service providers.
• Work with the Country Support and Policy team and GST’s tprovide strategic and analytics support tAfrican Governments through AGRA’s country support model:
• Scope and structure engagement with governments and other partners.
• Support the design of a country support package that is responsive tgovernment needs and encompasses strategy and analytics support, institutional strengthening, implementation support and resource mobilization, tdeliver on country strategies.
• Scope Terms of Reference for external advisory and analytics services; source and oversee service providers as required, tensure quality of services provided.

Other tasks will include:

• Design and roll-out of new strategic initiatives as identified by the Executive Management of AGRA - examples include efforts such as the refinement of a country plan for a priority country; the development of a strategy around youth in agribusiness; or the development of a Fellows Program tembed support staff within partner ministries.
• Oversee work streams and manage cross-functional teams for institutional or GST/in-country-level strategic initiatives.
• Support knowledge management and thought leadership in AGRA through identification of impactful strategic content, and support for its production and dissemination via appropriate channels.
• Support development, structuring, and occasional implementation of strategic partnerships in collaboration with the resource mobilization team, technical teams and in-country teams.
