    Principal Research Officer

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Dean, School of Graduate Studies, Research and Extension, the successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking research, writing proposals, implementing projects and provide advice to management on the key issues around research and extension activities that are relevant to the University.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Identify key research priorities for the University and develop a comprehensive research agenda. Research, collate and distribute targeted information with regard to new funding opportunities relevant to faculty at the University.
    • Compile comprehensive research reports with clear methodology, findings and recommendations. Implement the University’s research agenda and ensure smooth coordination with both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Provide relevant, timely and high quality briefs to inform outcomes of the research undertaken in the University.
    • Develop comprehensive research profile or database of all studies conducted by the department and faculty and update such profile or database on a regular basis and ensure that the outcome is posted in the University Repository.
    • Manage the dissemination of research undertaken by the University. Undertake strategic analysis of research and external needs and make recommendations that can inform the strategic actions of the University.

    Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience

    • Master’s degree in Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or any other relevant Social Science with bias in quantitative and qualitative analysis, from an accredited university;
    • At least three (3) years of progressive experience in research and capacity building in a reputable organization;
    • Strong knowledge of research evaluation methodology , data quality assurance , analysis and reporting;
    • Good computer literacy and knowledge of multiple statistical and/or qualitative software packages such as STATA, SPSS, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Word;

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Senior Student Affairs Officer - Sports Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining constant surveillance of patrons in the swimming pool facility, and acting immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Treat the pool with appropriate concentration of chemicals on a regular schedule
    • Monitor pool-related activities closely throughout shift and identify any safety issues
    • Direct swimmers out of the pool in hazardous conditions

    Laboratory Technician (Human Anatomy)

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Program Director (Pharmacy Program), in the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, the successful candidate will be responsible for the overall maintenance, cleanliness and order in the laboratory and will assist the Laboratory Technologist in the day-to-day activities of the laboratory.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assisting in preparation of reagents, preservative solutions, samples and specimen for practical classes and examinations.

    • Cleans up after each lab session by washing, and if necessary, sterilizing tools, equipment, and supplies.

    Laboratory Technologist

    Job Description

    Reporting to the Dean, School of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, the successful candidate in each of the following fields will be expected to support teaching and research activities in the laboratory and engage in service to community, hospitals and industry:

    • Medical Biochemistry
    • Pharmaceutics & Pharmacy Practice
    • Parataxonomist (Botanical or Biological Sciences)

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support all laboratory based learning & research activities by:
    • Performing tests and laboratory procedures such as preparing samples, specimen and doing manual tests that are based on detailed instructions and protocol.
    • Planning, documenting, setting up, undertaking (and guiding students on) controlled experiments and trials.
    • Maintaining laboratory use records, with reports as and when needed

    • Preparing laboratory test samples and specimen for examination by faculty and students
    • Discussing results and findings of laboratory tests and procedures with faculty and students

    • Setting up, calibrating, maintaining, operating and shutting down laboratory instruments.
    • Preparing equipment maintenance schedules and ensuring timely and satisfactory maintenance
    • Maintaining competence in a Laboratory Information System that is crucial to the quality operations of the laboratory.
    • Maintenance of material safety data sheets for all department chemicals and products.
    • Actively participating in Quality Improvement Programs essential to ensure that laboratory testing is accurate, timely and meets customer needs.

    • Ensuring botanical naming of all trees within the USIU compound Custody, care, maintenance and appropriate utilization of the School’s Botanical Garden Preservation and propagation of selected medicinal plants within the Botanical Garden
    • Setting up, operating and maintaining operational Herbarium and Parasitology /Vectors Museum within the SPHS.

    Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience:

    • Higher National Diploma in the relevant study field from an accredited University (Degree holders are preferred)
    • Relevant experience of three (3) years post-qualification in a Research Institution or at a university is mandatory.
    • Registration with relevant Regulatory Board. Evidence of support given to students during their research projects.
