    Principal Career & Placement Officer

    Job Description

    Reporting to the University Registrar, the successful candidate will assist in sourcing for employment/ internship/ volunteer opportunities for students and alumni; provide professional and responsive career services to students, employers and alumni; work closely with the Career and Placement Officers to broaden and deepen relationships with employers.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Source job placements, volunteer opportunities and internships for students and alumni
    • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with industry to market the USIU-Africa student, identify opportunities for new alliances and explore mutual areas of partnership
    • Negotiate with employers for Student Placement, Mentorship, Job-shadowing opportunities, Volunteer Work, Company visits, on and off Campus Talks and Training
    • Manage departmental projects as well as coordinate all departmental programs
    • Develop statistical reports on employer engagement, student placements, training programs and key departmental projects
    • Develop training manuals and policy guidelines for departmental programs
    • Conduct Career Advising sessions as well as manage Career Development Seminars, Workshops, Career Fairs and Networking events to link students and alumni to industry
    • Manage the development and publication of the USIU-Africa Career Newsletter
    • Develop strategy for achieving departmental objectives, monitor and report on progress
    • Supervise the Placement and Career Services staff
    • Develop and manage the departmental budget
    • Coordinate all job placement services
    • Organize employment recruitment drives and annual career fairs
    • Develop, implement and maintain job placement, mentorship and career programs for students and alumni.
    • Develop and oversee career services resource library.
    • Perform career development and job search counseling for students and alumni.
    • Develop and maintain databases of student and employer information
    • Protect the confidentiality of client information.

    Minimum Educational and Professional Requirements

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Social Sciences or equivalent from an accredited University Relevant Master’s Degree;
    • Served as Career & Placement Officer for a minimum of 3 years;
    • Proficiency in computer applications;

    • Ability to adapt and learn new trends in the market space.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop effective working relationships with a wide range of external stakeholders and liaise at all levels.
    • Good analytical and research skills.
