    Logistics Assistant

    Job description

    Background Information - Job-specific

The rapid deployment of engineering capability to UN peacekeeping missions, particularly in Africa, is a very urgent challenge, and timely response is strongly required. The rapid deployment of troops, into well situated and defended camps, can greatly improve conditions on the ground, build confidence in a fragile peace, provide stability to tense areas and ensure the UN supports and maintains the peace.

There have been numerous attempts to accelerate the missions’ start-up or response to changes in mandate, including the provision of Military Engineering Contingents (MECs) from Troop Contributing Countries (TCC’s) for facilities and infrastructure work. This solution has not proven fully effective to date due to a number of operational realities. TCC technical capabilities can vary considerably from one military engineering company to another.

To support this rapid deployment, an engineering training facility is being established to train military engineering contingents from Troop Contributing Countries (TCC’s) in the East Africa region. The intended result is TCC’s will provide competent Peace-Keeping Engineering Units able to deploy and effectively support peace keeping mission requirements.
