    Business Development Officer

    The priorities for the role include:

    • Advocate the organisation to external stakeholders including corporates, trade associations, not-for-profit organisations, government agencies and academic institutions, building a network of influence with these groups, simultaneously informing and challenging them
    • Develop the Society membership base and provide excellent services to its members. Continuously innovate and deliver on the membership value proposition.
    • Realize additional revenue and revenue streams for the organisation through grants, event sponsors, a robust calendar of events, annual conference, green building accreditations, education courses
    • Develop a database of grant donors with their calendar of grant application processes, and deep relationships with these stakeholders. Write and deliver strong proposals positioning
    • P&L responsibility and presentation of annual budgets for Board approval related to the memberships, grants and event sponsorships;
    •  Contribute to the development and implementation of society strategic and operational planning requirements;
      Contribute to all technology and IT management initiatives including building the organisation’s knowledge/information management capability as they enable the business development agenda;
      Contribute to the Society marketing strategy with website, social media and traditional marketing as they enable the business development agenda;
      Contribute analysis to major resource investment decisions, including feasibility analysis as they enable the business development agenda;
      Provide robust and effective management information and reporting to assist with high level decision making for the Board
    • Be the go-to person for prospective and current event sponsors, corporate & individual members, and grant donors
    • Maintain a visible presence at industry and member events
    • Work with the Marketing Manager to ensure the society is positioned as the leading organisation driving the uptake of Green Building
    • Seek out opportunities for the society to increase its profile through partnerships, presentations, research, an other
    • Work with both new and existing partners to find ways the society can deliver more value to the industry – demonstrating our innovative thinking and collaborative working approach
    • Seek new opportunities for the society to take on project work that is aligned with our mission
    • Influence the development of management information systems required for monitoring and evaluation reporting to sponsors, corporate members and grant donors
      Develop and maintain knowledge leadership and tools required to develop long-term sustainability of the society’ fundraising needs

    Qualifications for the Business Development Officer

    • University degree in any of the fields Project management, Management, Accounting, Finance, Property or related)
    • Knowledge and experience working with environmental rating tools of buildings
    • Experience in industry and government protocols and negotiations
    • Ability to bring people together across functional and geographic boundaries to achieve results as a ream and share best practice
    • A minimum of 5 years work experience in the building industry
    • Experience with building and leading high performance teams
    • Strong organisational and operational skills including project management experience
    • Budget forecasting, budget implementation and finance experience
    • Business analysis, including investment feasibility and decision making experience
    • Confident public speaking and leadership skills
    • Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills
    • Demonstration of problem solving and issue management
    • Results oriented
    • Ability to think strategically to identify key sources of differentiation and opportunities for the organization
    • Self-motivation and ability to manage deadlines
    • Dynamic and adaptable to change
    • Flexible commitment to growth and change with the motivation to grow into new roles as organisation changes
