    Environmental Management Intern

    Responsibilities

    Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

    The internship is located in the Water and Sanitation Unit, Urban Basic Services Branch and the intern will primarily work with the Environmental Management System (EMS) team that are conducting environmental baseline studies in Somalia in the preparatory phase for the design and implementation of Environmental Management System in UNSOS sector hubs.
    Responsibilities:
    Under the direct supervision of the Human Settlement Officer (Water and Sanitation Unit), the intern will:
    -Assist the project management team in the design and pilot implementation of an Environmental Management System in Somalia
    -Assist in the review and writing of the minutes of meetings, summaries, and progress reports related to the execution of environmental baseline studies
    -Assist on other projects under the Water and Sanitation Unit that are related to the interest and educational background of the intern.
    -Assist in organizing expert group meetings, consultative and other meetings and conferences; support outreach activities
    -Assist with the production of communication materials and updates for the Unit’s websites;
    -Assist with any other duties

    Education

    Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
    a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
    b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
    c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

    Be computer literate in standard software applications.

    Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

    Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

    Preferred area of study:
    Postgraduate studies in environmental management, engineering or any related field is preferred.

    Work Experience

    Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

    Languages

    English is the working language of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required.
