Position summary

Apply advanced clinical procedures for treating and preventing diseases, injuries, and other physical or mental impairments; plan, organize and direct the work of other Clinical Officers

Clinical Officer Job Responsibilities

• Ensure smooth delivery of health services to patients by RCOs
• As part of the medical team, contribute to the improvement of health service delivery Planning Plan, roster and monitor the work of RCOs at the hospital
• Provision of health education
• Participate in the provision of education for prevention of disease and promotion of health at least once a month
• Participate in at least one outreach health activity in a month
• Provide guidance in the development of departmental work plan and budget based on the hospital strategic plan
• Prepare individual annual work plan based on department work plan
• Participate in the development and maintenance of quality assurance systems in accordance with set protocols and techniques
• Conduct routine evaluation of treatment and reporting methods by the RCO team
• Supervise internships and training of RCOs
• Undertake research, provide technical support to, and direct staff undertaking clinical research and mobilize funding for research

Qualifications for the Clinical Officer Job

• Diploma or Higher National Diploma in Clinical Medicine & Surgery or other related area of specialization
• A comprehensive understanding of clinical and/or surgical procedures, patient care procedures, medical protocols and testing procedures
• Excellent clinical skills
• Interpersonal skills necessary to interview, teach and counsel patients;
• Ability to analyze and evaluate patient history, physical examination findings and laboratory values, and make preliminary diagnosis of patients for review by physician if necessary
• Registered with the Clinical Officer’s Council of Kenya
• 2 years’ experience in provision and management of clinical services
