Cost Accountant at African Cotton Industries Ltd

Job Description

The Cost Accountant will be tasked to ensure at any given time ACI cost reports are up to date, comparing actual costs vs estimated costs as well as forecasted costs are distributed appropriately within the set timelines. The Cost Accountant will be responsible for maintaining and controlling job costs by collecting and recording direct costs (materials, labour, subcontract services) and allocating indirect costs using a sound applicable methodology.

Key Responsibilities

• Planning, Studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, inventory and labour
• Analyse costs of raw materials and other supplies and create cost-benefit analyses for diffrerent vendors
• Analysing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
• Recording cost information for use in controlling expenditures
• Analysing audits of costs and preparing reports and Classify costs accurately
• Review rates of depreciation, labour and overhead and suggest policy changes to improve numbers
• Providing management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services.
• Maintaining Cost Accounting System
• Maintain and review the general ledger and reconcile balance sheets
• Conducts physical inventories and monitors cycle count program which provides reconciliations of Finished Goods, Raw Materials, Packaging Materials & GIT inventories

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Essential Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting/related field
• Must have a CPA(K) Qualification
• Must have a strong Cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principals
• Strong technology skills on Microsoft office
• Minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience working in cost accounting, reporting, and cross team collaboration within a manufacturing environment.
• Excellent Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports
• Excellent analytical and reasoning skills, plus excellent organisational skills required
