    GBV Caseworkers - Kakuma

    Description:

    The IRC operates within Kakuma Refugee Camp. Most of the refugees originate from South Sudan with new arrivals being received regularly. Some of the refugees undergo Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) while on transit or at the border point but face the disadvantage of not having access to SGBV services. As part of enhancing timely and comprehensive care to survivors of SGBV, the IRC intends to broaden its scope in provision of psychosocial support and health services to SGBV survivors at Nadapal border in Turkana West and also within Kakuma refugee Camp.

    Job Purpose/Objective

    The WPE/GBV case Worker will offer GBV screening services, holistic case management to survivors while ensuring improved quality of health and psychosocial support, support in development of a functional referral networks that enhance survivors’ ability to receive confidential, safe, and timely services that meets their needs.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Provide direct support and care for adult survivors of GBV and age-appropriate specialized support and care for adolescents, male and child survivors of GBV, including counseling and case management.
    • Ensure proper documentation of reported GBV incidences through utilization of GBVIMS case intake, action, follow up and other case management forms appropriately.
    • Ensure safety of survivors is guaranteed by adhering to GBV guiding principles and use of survivor centered approach.
    • Support in developing and strengthening referral networks and monitor the implementation of the referral pathway to improve survivors’ access to confidentiality, safe GBV services in a timely manner to meet their needs.
    • Deliver information on available services to SGBV survivors to ensure informed decision making process and appropriate referrals are done
    • In consultations with women and girls, develop and support to implement a series of age-appropriate and group emotional and social support activities for women and girls, with an emphasis on meeting the needs of survivors of GBV and strengthening support networks among women and girls.
    • In consultations with GBV officer, develop and implement/ share monthly response plan and GBV key issues based on case trends to disseminate information on services available and referral pathways.
    • Make routine follow up to cases of SGBV survivors at home and various partner organizations referred to ascertain their wellbeing and services received.
    • Prepare and submit weekly & monthly reports as required and incorporate supervisors’ feedback in a timely manner, including information related to survivor non- identifying data, treatment provided, follow up visits, drugs availability, referrals to other service providers and awareness activities conducted etc.
    • Participate in the development of procurement and spending plans and work plans to ensure the successful implementation of programs
    • Ensure supplies/resources are requested on a timely manner for timely implementation of program activities including manage/prepare contingency program stock supplies where necessary.
    • Monitor and track utilization of program supplies and resources to ensure efficient use of available resources.
    • Ensure tracking of key program indicators and progress through utilization of GBVIMS, M&E data collection and indicator tracking tools.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Key Result Areas:

    • Ensure timely and comprehensive screening of SGBV psychosocial services.
    • Support adherence to GBV referral protocols and guiding principles for working with survivors
    • Assess gaps in GBV prevention and response services, make recommendations/suggestions for improvements to the supervisor and develop, in consultation with the team and Manager, strategies to address the gaps

    Qualifications

    • Diploma in Social Work / Social Sciences / Counseling / psychology / health or other related field preferred. Degree in similar fields would be an added advantage.
    • At least 3 years’ experience in the direct provision of counseling and psychosocial support to survivors of Gender Based Violence, including child survivors
    • Clear understanding, including demonstrated positive attitudes on gender inequality, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls STRONGLY preferred.
    • Excellent listening and observation skills, including ability to create trust, support, respect and interact with survivors of all ages, background and diversity
    • Ability to lead, train, supervise, and motivate other GBV staff and local partners in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful and supportive manner.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality, non-discrimination and respect for clients.
    • Has a positive and professional attitude ability to work with minimal supervision and in a hardship area.
    • Flexibility in work including working outside of normal working hours when necessary.
    • Knowledge of English and Kiswahili is a must (knowledge of Arabic is an added advantage)
    • Experience working with refugee population
    • Clear understanding on use of GBVIMS will be an added advantage.
