    Assistant Project Manager- national contract

    Job Description

    Supervisor: Project Manager

    Duty station: Nairobi, FADV office, with field missions if needed in other counties

    Starting date: April 2018

    Duration of the assignment: 12 months, extensible, with 3 months’ probation

    Background

    FADV has been working in Kenya since 2011, focusing on Children’s rights and protection.

    Since 2014, it has been working in the Government Statutory Institutions in collaboration with the Department of Children Services (DCS), in order to improve the conditions of the children hosted in the centers.

    From April 2018, with the financial support of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, FADV will start a new project in all the 39 Children Government Statutory Institutions (DPAS, DCS and KPS) with the support of several National and International partners and a specific focus on: Restorative Justice, Foster care and Juvenile justice.

    Role and Responsibilities:

    • Support the implementation of the activities in accordance with agreed objectives and indicators
    • Support the coordination of all the different partners and stakeholders involved in the project
    • Support in conducting data collection, monitoring activities and reporting (this may require travels in other counties)
    • Participate at high level meeting with Government Department
    • Support for proposal production and work plan formulation
    • Attends partners’ coordination meetings
    • Assist in assessments of implementing partners on capacity in programmes, producing objective and accurate reports with recommendations against agreed deliverables
    • Support the creation of linkages and partnerships with relevant government and private institutions
    • Ensure that the required support to project partners is provided promptly, at scale and in line with the agreed donor requirements.
    • Assist in preparation of timely and high quality institutional and donor reports
    • Any other duties as may be assigned by the line manager, relevant to the achievement of Project objectives

    Qualifications / Level of studies:

    University degree in one of the following sector: Project management, Human Rights, Pedagogy/ Social Studies or other related fields of study

    Experience:

    • Minimum four years relevant experience in international development, INGOs and/or child protection sector
    • Previous experience in the Juvenile Justice Sector in Kenya will be an added advantage

    Skills:

    • Good analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail and determination to meet deadlines.
    • Able to prioritize, communicate effectively, and meet deadlines
    • Good administration skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task;
    • Basic computer skills (Microsoft office word, excel, etc); good command of arithmetic concepts.
    • Interpersonal communication skills.
    • Good communication skills (both written and oral) in English and Swahili
    • Data handling skill.

    Other:

    • Ability and willingness to travel on occasion to other counties’ locations
    • Honesty and strong ethics are required in order to be successful in this position.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
    • Ability to apply discretion and maintain confidential information
    • Professional attitude towards work.
    • Pro-active and results oriented.
    • Flexible and adaptable in working with an up-and-coming not-for-profit organization
