Chief Legal Officer at Machakos University

GRADE 14 (HR/CLO/06)

Main Responsibilities

• Management of legal matters in the University and advising the University Management on the same.
• In addition, the officer will be in charge of staff training and development in the legal department.
• Coordinating the preparation of University policies and regulations,
• Drafting of legal documents,
• Handling cases involving the University in liaison with external lawyers, attending court cases where necessary,
• Coordinating legal matters in the University,
• Preparing and collecting evidence and exhibition as required in court and submitting periodic reports,
• Liaise with other departments on legal matters,
• Ensure the University operates within the law,
• Develop and manage University litigation and any other duties as may be assigned by a senior officer.

Job Requirements

• Must be a holder of LLM degree from a recognized university or equivalent institution. Registered with the Kenya School of Law (KSL).
• Must be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing license.
• Must be a Commissioner of Oaths and Notary Public.
• Must have Twelve (12) years’ experience with at least (3) years’ service as Deputy Chief Legal Officer Grade 13.

In Addition

• Must be computer Literate.
• Experience in a University setting will be an added advantage.
