JOB LEVEL 5 (PUBLISHING DEPARTMENT): JOB REF HR SE-9-2018

Reports to: Assistant Publishing Manager

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and implement sound publication plans and product development initiatives;
• Prepare publishing proposals, manuscripts assessment and acquisition reports for decision making;
• Acquire, develop and publish books as per set annual targets after examining market trends and demographics to establish the needs of the audience;
• Co-ordinate the acquisition and assessment of unsolicited and Solicited manuscripts to meet market needs;
• Edit manuscripts/typescripts for production of print ready electronic files;
• Co-ordinate and monitor writing workshops and author’s activities for development of titles;
• Interpret curriculum and syllabi, in area of specialisation;

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS)

• Bachelor’s Degree in Publishing or Education (Chemistry and Biology Combination) or Communication, Information Sciences (Publishing).
• Higher National Diploma or Diploma in Journalism or a relevant field from a recognized body.
• Minimum seven (7) years of relevant work experience with at least three (3) years at a senior management/leadership position.
• Problem solving, analytical, leadership, decision making, integrity, good communication, organization and planning skills.
• A good team player, maintains high work standards, reliable, easily adapts to new environments, pays attention to detail and self-motivated.
