    Clinical Nurse Instructor - Critical Care

    Job Description

    The Clinical Nurse Instructor (CNI) is responsible for delivery of safe and quality patient care through evidence based clinical practice and nurses’ professional growth and development.

    Key Responsibilities & Duties:

    • Lead the team in development, implementation and monitoring of unit based clinical policies and procedures.
    • Assist the Critical Care Manager and nurses to initiate and innovate evidence based strategies to improve patient care.
    • Participate in establishment of standards of care with unit staff and monitor delivery of care according to established standards.
    • Together with the Critical Care Manager, conduct regular evaluation of nurses and design individual development plans based on identified training needs.
    • Make daily rounds for all patients in the unit and assess their health status to identify care needs.
    • Support efficient patient care delivery by working one to one with the critical care nurses.
    • Provide adequate orientation and mentorship of nurses assigned to the critical care department.
    • Identify learning needs for nurses and develop an action plan to support learning.
    • Monitor clinical incidences/challenges and develop a teaching plan to support learning needs.
    • Use clinical incidences as learning opportunities for nurses and with them plan corrective and preventive actions.
    • Maintain record of all learning activities for the unit and individual nurses.
    • Participate in evaluation of nursing documents to ensure relevance to current practices.
    • Participate in unit and hospital wide nursing research projects.
    • Initiate the implementation of nursing research recommendations to improve quality of care to patients.
    • Supervise direct patient care services in the unit.
    • Participate in infection control surveillance and adherence to infection prevention and control practices.
    • Promote excellent customer service through team work and compassionate care.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Have a KRN/KRM/KRCHN/BScN.
    • Diploma in Critical Care Nursing is an added advantage.
    • Registered nurse with up to date licensure with the Nursing council of Kenya.
    • Minimum 5 year’s continuous nursing experience in clinical practice.
    • Competency in computer skills.
    • Competency in verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
