Purpose of the Job
The Commissioner Legal Services will be responsible for the provision of legal advisory, litigation
and tax dispute services to facilitate effective revenue collection.
• Implement legal strategies to collect and preserve revenue through appropriate litigation and
alternative dispute resolution processes;
• Provide legal advice to the Authority on tax matters
• Ensure Authority’s compliance with the applicable legal and regulatory framework and
requirements;
• Draft, review and develop existing and new laws to support the commercial departments;
• Handle all legal aspects affecting revenue operations;
• Develop a framework to support the Authority on all litigation matters and alternative dispute
resolution processes;
• Set the overall strategic direction of the department and motivate staff to deliver high impact
performance.
Applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications:
• University Degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized institution;
• Fifteen (15) years’ experience practicing law, at least ten (10) of which must focus on litigation at middle and senior management levels in a corporate environment within the public or private sector;
• Master’s Degree in the relevant fields shall confer added advantage;
• Is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, member of the LSK, and have a valid practicing certificate.
• Membership to ICPSK (ICS) is an added advantage
In addition, candidates should demonstrate the following Personal Traits and Competencies:
• Experience leading legal services in corporate and commercial law within large public or private sector institutions;
• Experience in handling litigation;
• High standards of ethics, integrity and confidentiality;
• High level of interpersonal skills;
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience of modern non-adversary commercial dispute resolution including alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
