    Chief Of Party

    KRCS is seeking a qualified person for the position of Chief of Party for an anticipated 5-year USAID Food For Peace (FFP) Development Food Security Activities (DFSA) in Kenya. The project focuses on sustainably reducing levels of acute malnutrition in Kenya’s arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs), in Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu and Turkana counties. The project will be implemented in two phases, from October 2019 to September 2025; (1) Phase 1 will focus on researching, testing approaches and collaboratively designing a context-sensitive, multi-sectoral activity to sustainably reduce acute malnutrition; and (2) Phase 2 will focus on activity implementation and system and institutional strengthening to manage nutrition interventions. KRCS will be putting in an application in response to the FFP DFSA request for applications in collaboration with other consortium partners.

    Reporting to: Director of Programs

    Overall Purpose:

    Under the supervision of the Director of Programs, the Chief of Party is responsible for the overall management and representation of the project and must have prior experience effectively managing USAID development activities.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • The COP will be the primary liaison with USAID and will manage project staff and implementing partners to ensure proper reporting, financial management, and compliance to USAID requirements
    • The COP is expected to coordinate with Nation and County governments and other stakeholders to ensure activities complement ongoing initiatives and adhere to both national priorities and global best practices.
    • Will build and maintain relationships with National and County governments, donors, other donor funded projects and stakeholders, local organizations, and partners.
    • Understands and demonstrate commitment to the importance of gender and youth issues in food security programming and within staff and management of the project.

    DESIRED COMPETENCIES

    • Proven leadership skills managing projects of a similar size and scope in developing countries and in low resource environments
    • Demonstrated experience recruiting, developing and managing human, programmatic and financial resources
    • Demonstrated experience and ability to build and maintain relationships with government, donors, other donor-funded projects, stakeholders, local organizations and partners
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
    • Strong mentoring and facilitation skills
    • Ability to network and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders
    • Demonstrated experience in adaptive management and learning techniques is highly encouraged
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and interface with senior members of the business/Society
    • Self-motivation and strong team spirit
    • Ability to effectively handle and manage interpersonal conflict.
    • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Commitment to gender and youth issues in food security programming and possess cultural awareness and sensitivity.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • A master’s degree in development studies, international relations, agriculture, nutrition, public health, business administration, or related field
    • Minimum of 10 years of progressively increasing management responsibility in international development projects is required.
