    Public Health Project Manager (One Year Fixed Term Contract)

    Job description

    IQVIA is looking for a Public Health Project Manager for a leading Public Health Project based in Nairobi, Kenya. Successful candidate will be expected to travel. This role is a One Year Fixed Term Contract. 

    We are hiring for a project-based on a 2-year fixed contract – The project is a regional grant from the Fleming Fund UK, to generate primary evidence on Anti-biotic resistance (AMR) and Anti-biotic usage (AMU) across 12 countries in Africa from labs and pharmacies (approx. 3-4 countries in each of East, West and Southern Africa).

    The primary aim of the project is to increase the volume of AMR and AMU data available across Africa. To achieve this, IQVIA needs to lead a data collection exercise across approximately 50 sites consisting of labs and pharmacies in each of the 12 countries to collect evidence on AMR and AMU for the year 2018, and 2017 and 2016 if possible.

    IQVIA is one of the key partners in a large consortium created for this project. The project commenced in early 2019 and is expected to run till at least the end of 2020.

    Project Roles and responsibilities 

    The Project Lead will take up end-to-end program management role to oversee all activities within the regional grant (East, West, French West and Southern Africa). Must have sufficient experience (10+ years) in managing large scale grants and/or in similar work to provide technical expertise on public health projects, expert/stakeholder consultations and developing & managing key stakeholder relationships, management of large project and field teams etc). Specific responsibilities for the Project Lead will include:

    • Develop, manage and track a detailed project plan: with timelines and deliverables and lead project to successful completion, on-time and within-budget, with limited senior management guidance
    • Manage a large project team: This team will include project 4 Regional Coordinators spread across the four regions, 1 Data Manager as well as field teams consisting of Supervisors and Data collectors for each of the 12 countries
    • Negotiate and manage third party contracts for field teams needed for data collection purpose
    • Lead the design, development and delivery of the project: including all operational aspects of the rollout of the primary data collection exercise across all project countries; Provide technical leadership across the stages of planning, design and analysis of data collection
    • Serve as the liaison between the client, consortium partners, IQVIA project management team and IQVIA regional and field teams
    • Coordinate closely with consortium partners to obtain approvals: for in-country work from partners such as WAHO, ECSA, and Africa CDC etc.
    • Identify relevant stakeholders for each region, and build long term relationship as required for smooth functioning of the project
    • Prepare updates and/or M&E reports for the client and/or IQVIA project management team at agreed frequency (in standard IQVIA formats) and/or drive cadence calls as required
    • Provide inputs to, and ensure the development of, client reports and presentations and delivers all or significant portions of findings to the client
    • Conduct frequent on-site visits to monitor progress of data collection to each country/ region as needed/requested
    • Represent IQVIA in stakeholder/client/consortium meetings
    • Proactively mentor, coach and shares subject matter expertise with team members

    The Project lead will spend substantial time managing the Fleming Fund project (~70-80%) but also contribute to Business Development Activities for IQVIA to grow the Public Health practice in Africa. Roles and responsibilities may include:

    • Identify, prioritize countries and key stakeholders/ prospective clients in Africa
    • Develop strategy to build a lasting relationship with identified stakeholders
    • Provide inputs to the process of proposal preparation
    • Identify new business opportunities through the identification of follow-on work and new leads
    • Support identification and development of new offerings for the Public Health practice

    Experience/ Qualifications–

    • 10-12 years’ work experience managing large-scale projects in the healthcare space
    • Experience working and coordinating with multiple stakeholders in the private and public healthcare space
    • Ability to lead project teams across countries and play a hands-on and operational/ coordination role among multiple teams/ partners/ stakeholders
    • Minimum of Bachelors’ degree, and preferred if candidate has a Masters’ degree in any relevant discipline such as Economics/Business/ Health/ Social Development or related fields
    • Good level of proficiency in Powerpoint, Excel and Word; excellent oral and written communication skills are needed
    • Extensive experience of working across countries in Africa in healthcare
    • Candidate should be open to 30-40% travel to different countries in the respective regions
    • Prior experience in global/ public health space is a plus.

    The ideal candidate should be available to assume the role between 2-3 weeks.
