Assistant Director Solid Waste Management (Recycling & Disposal Management) at Mombasa County Public Service Board

Job Description

• Planning and coordinating solid waste recycling, resource recovery, treatment and disposal programmes.
• Implementing departmental policies, strategies and procedures relating to recycling and disposal management.
• Overseeing the operation and management of recycling, recovery, treatment and disposal facilities.
• Ensuring proper management and maintenance of solid waste management facilities, equipment and assets under the unit.
• Coordinating waste reduction, recycling, composting and resource recovery programmes.
• Monitoring operations at landfill, treatment, recycling and disposal facilities.
• Implementing best practices in waste recycling, recovery, treatment and disposal.
• Monitoring performance of recycling and disposal programmes and recommending corrective action.
• Coordinating with field services on receipt and appropriate management of waste delivered to designated facilities.
• Supervising staff responsible for recycling, recovery, treatment and disposal operations.
• Coordinating stakeholder engagement with relevant government agencies, private sector operators, recyclers and communities.
• Preparing reports on recycling, recovery, treatment, landfill and disposal activities.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, environmental management, natural resource management, waste management, public administration, business administration/management or a related field from a recognized institution.
• At least three (3) years' relevant experience in solid waste management, recycling, landfill management, environmental management or a related field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of waste recycling, recovery, treatment and disposal processes.
• Knowledge of county and national legislation relating to solid waste management.
• Completion a strategic leadership development course lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
• Member of environment institute of kenya (eik) or a relevant professional body will be an added advantage.
• Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
