• Diploma in any of the following fields: - Leather Technology, Footwear Technology Leather Goods Design and Development from a recognized institution:

OR

• Diploma in Animal Health or Environmental Resources Management/Science, plus a two years Certificate in Hides and Skin Improvement or Leather Technology.

Professional Qualifications / Membership to professional bodies

• Certificate in Leather Technology
• Certificate in Computer application skills

Previous relevant work experience required.

Job Description

Job Purpose

• This position is responsible for improving the quality of hides and skins and promoting leather value addition for local and international market.

Key Responsibilities/ Duties / Tasks

Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities

Operational Responsibilities / Tasks

• Develop tannery layouts plans under the guidance of a senior officer
• Demonstrate to traders the proper methods of washing, fleshing, trimming ,lacing, suspending and preservation of hides and skin
• Advise on the salt type, storage and method of application in carrying hides and skins
• Participate in siting, designing and overseeing the construction of suitable hides and skins premises and stores
• Participate in field days, barazas and work shop to advice livestock farmers on the proper method of handling domestic animals for production of quality hides and skins; and
•  Demonstrate to skins flayers and traders on the appropriate method of flaying cleaning, carrying and storage of hides and skins
