Associate Professor at Laikipia University

Key Duties/Responsibilities: 

• Leads in the curriculum development and review process. 
• Develops appropriate learning and teaching materials to ensure effective delivery of the subject matter. 
• Leads in the development of research projects to extend knowledge of the relevant subject area. 
• Provides leadership in the provision of service to the community and the profession.  
• Leads in the discussion of examination results in departments, schools and senate (where applicable) to ensure effectiveness and general improved performance for each course. 
• Provides expert opinion in the areas of specialization for income generation projects at the University, national and international levels. 
• Prepares and delivers course outline, material and content to students. 
• Delivers lectures to undergraduate and post graduate students for knowledge acquisition and attainment of degrees. 
• Conducts continuous evaluation of student’s course work to determine effectiveness of delivery of teaching and assess students’ performance. 
• Maintains accurate records of students’ attendance, assignments and continuous assessments for accountability and advising students on academic improvement strategy. 
• Leads in the innovation of activities and intellectual property in area of specialization.  
• Oversees undertaking of academic consultancies. 
• Undertakes editorial and review tasks in academic journals, books and book chapters. 
• Conducts internal moderation of exams. 
• Serves as patron to academic club’s/student organizations. 
• Participates in ad hoc and statutory university committees. 
• Develops research projects to extend knowledge in the relevant subject area.  
• Undertakes well-funded research and publishes peer-reviewed articles, books and book chapters. 
• Leads in the translation and implementation of knowledge into practice. 
• Assesses student’s performance and prepares students progress reports to help in decision making in regard to the academic progress of the students in question. 
• Leads academic seminars at departmental, school and inter-university levels. 
• Organizes learned conferences, symposia and workshops in the area of specializations. 
• Supervises both postgraduate and undergraduate research works.  
• Attends school and departmental meetings for proper management of the University. 
• Undertakes placement and supervises students on industrial attachment, teaching practice and internship. 
• Keeps prudent tabs on emerging developments in both research and teaching in the specific subject area. 
• Other duties assigned by immediate supervisor. 

Academic/Professional Qualifications 

• Doctorate degree (PhD) or equivalent Doctoral degree from an accredited and recognized University in the relevant field. 
• Have a minimum of forty-eight (48) publication points as a Senior Lecturer or industry experience, of which at least thirty-two (32) should be from refereed scholarly journals. 
• Supervised at least four (4) postgraduate students to completion, including at least one (1) doctoral student. 
• Registration for a Doctorate degree (PhD) or equivalent Doctoral degree from an accredited and recognized University in the relevant field. 
• Registration or be registerable by a relevant professional body will be an added advantage. 
• Attracted research or development funds as a Senior Lecturer. 
• Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution. 
• Served in the Grade of Senior Lecturer or in a comparable position for a minimum period of three (3) years.
