Backend Engineer, Mid-Level (AWS, Python & Node.js and/or SpringBoot) at Zeno

The Role

• Zeno is building the backend platform that powers our EV battery-swapping ecosystem — covering vehicle telemetry, swap station orchestration, wallet & payment transactions, and fleet partner management. We're looking for a Backend Engineer to build and maintain services across our microservices stack, deployed on AWS using Python and Node.js.

What You'll Do

• Develop and maintain backend microservices — Vehicle Service, Swap Station Service, Transaction Management Service, and Wallet Management Service — using Python (FastAPI/Flask) and Node.js (Express)
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs consumed by the App and Web clients
• Work with PostgreSQL/RDS for core domain data (customers, vehicles, fleet partners, battery packs, swap stations) and ClickHouse for vehicle and swap-station telemetry
• Implement and maintain asynchronous, event-driven workflows
• Contribute to wallet/ledger transaction processing with attention to idempotency and data correctness
• Deploy and manage services on AWS (ECS, RDS, S3, CloudWatch)
• Write and maintain data-ingestion logic for high-volume telemetry data
• Participate in code reviews, write unit/integration tests, and follow engineering best practices
• Debug and resolve production issues, including monitoring via CloudWatch Logs and handling dead-letter queue (DLQ) messages for failed transactions
• Collaborate with senior engineers on system design discussions and contribute to technical documentation
• Support CI/CD pipeline maintenance (GitHub Actions)

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years of experience in backend software development
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or Node.js
• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
• Working knowledge of AWS services (ECS, RDS, S3, SQS/SNS, CloudWatch)
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL); exposure to time-series/columnar databases (ClickHouse) is a plus
• Understanding of asynchronous/event-driven architecture patterns
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows
• Solid understanding of software testing practices (unit, integration)
• Good problem-solving and debugging skills
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with Docker and container orchestration
• Exposure to Redis for caching or live data use cases
• Experience with message queue systems (SQS, SNS, RabbitMQ)
• Familiarity with financial/wallet/ledger systems
• Experience in IoT, telemetry, or connected-device platforms
• AWS Cloud Practitioner or Associate-level certification
• Exposure to microservices architecture and API gateway/service mesh (Envoy)
