    Business Development and Fundraising Specialist

    Consultancy Role

    • This position aims to support the development of HealthRight's program portfolio by focusing on strategy, project design, communication, relationship-building, networking, staff capacity-building, and business development management. As a Business Development Specialist, your key responsibilities include identifying new business and funding opportunities within areas such as RMNCAH (Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health), Climate Change, Mental Health, HIV/AIDS, and Violence. This involves fostering strong donor relationships, leading proposal development efforts, and nurturing partnerships with relevant organizations aligned with HRK's strategic goals. Your role requires analyzing donor trends, pinpointing funding prospects, and aiding response strategies. Close collaboration with program and field teams, as well as M&E (Monitoring and Evaluation), is vital for identifying funding gaps and opportunities.

    Key Responsibilities and Deliverables

    • Donor Analysis: Conduct thorough analysis of the donor landscape to identify potential funding areas for Mental Health, RMNCAH, HIV, and Violence. Update HRK's business development strategy to align with field trends and strategic objectives.
    • Business Strategy: Formulate and execute comprehensive business development strategies to enhance the Mental Health portfolio's scope, intervention quality, and documentation of best practices and innovative health programming approaches.
    • Proposal Development: Craft compelling proposals, presentations, and pitches customized to suit prospective donors' requirements. Highlight HRK's unique methodologies to establish competitive advantages.
    • Donor Relationship Management: Cultivate and sustain robust relationships with existing stakeholders, donors, and communities. This ensures HRK remains a preferred partner in Mental Health, HIV, Violence, and RMNCAH.
    • HRK Business Development Performance Analysis: Monitor and assess HRK's performance metrics based on business and partnership indicators. Generate regular reports to evaluate sales strategies' effectiveness and identify areas for enhancement.
    • Partnership Development: Collaborate with potential partners to establish mutually beneficial relationships, exploring novel business prospects, partnerships, and collaborations. This encompasses engagements with national and county governments, NGOs, civil society, and communities.
    • Team Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams like marketing, product development, and customer support to align strategies and ensure seamless project execution.
    • Research and Advocacy: Oversee research, documentation, and data generation for informed decision-making. Collaborate with project teams to conduct operational research, document findings, and advocate for policy and practice changes.

    Training and Mentorship: Provide mentorship to HRK staff on the principles of business development.

    In addition, the consultant is expected to deliver:

    • An inception report containing an analysis of HRK's business development gaps, a donor landscape map, and an action plan for business development.
    • Monthly progress reports on business development, outlining opportunities, submissions, and improvement strategies.
    • Monthly activity reports including job card requirements, partnership engagements, and other marketing initiatives.
    • Quarterly business performance reports with recommendations.

    Academic and Professional Qualifications

    • Minimum bachelor's degree in project management, Social sciences, community development, communications and marketing, or international relations.

    Work Experience Required

    • 5+ years of experience in fundraising for NGOs, encompassing proposal development and donor relations.
    • Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating health projects within domains like RMNCAH, Violence, Mental Health, Climate Change, Advocacy, and HIV/AIDS.
    • Familiarity with the Kenyan donor landscape and fundraising strategies.
    • Proficiency in communication and strategy development for NGO marketing and donor partnerships.
    • Experience working with stakeholders and key donors such as bilateral, multilaterals, foundations, and corporate donors.
    • Commitment to equity, human rights, and intersectional approaches to health.
