    Climate Resilience Intern

    SCOPE OF ROLE: 

    This is an exciting opportunity for a young and dynamic, upcoming professional seeking to obtain first job experience in Climate Resilience, working with a multinational team across the region.  It requires a dedicated, independent, and highly motivated individual who is willing to learn and offer creative ideas to achieving the goals of Climate Resilience Management.

    KEY RESPONSIBILLITIES:

    • Support mapping ongoing and past projects in the region with a climate component and collect relevant information and data from countries
    • Support preparing climate capacity building for country office staff including gathering relevant research and data for various sectors affected by climate change
    • Research potential local climate and environmental partners in the region
    • Support with harmonizing and structuring ongoing climate ambitions in the different country offices
    • Review national climate relevant policies and frameworks and conduct a mapping exercise regarding children’s participation.
    • Support climate and environmental advocacy work for various country offices in form of capacity statements, social media posts and factsheets
    • Support research and knowledge gathering/dissemination of various climate and environmental topics for including in our ongoing climate ambitions

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • University degree (at least BSc) in climate change, geography, natural resource management, environmental science or similar from an acknowledged institute 
    • Understanding of climate change projections and climate data and their interpretation for Eastern and Southern African countries
    • Understanding of Eastern and Southern African’s climate change impacts and environmental issues across various sectors
    • Understanding of nature-based solutions and locally-led adaptation principles and experience in applying adaptation and mitigation actions in developing country contexts, particularly at the community level
    • Strong experience and interest in research, data analysis and report writing regarding various climate and environmental topics in the Eastern and Southern African countries
    • Ability to work very independently and be proactive, set priorities as well as prepare manageable plans due to multiple tasks and deliver high-quality outputs
    • Ability to interact with multiple stakeholders (government, partners, NGOs, SCI staff) effectively to successful collect information and data
    • Ability to think across different sectors and include a holistic perspective 
    • Very good written and oral communication skills
    • Good social media skills to support advocacy work
    • Preferably application skills of remote sensing and GIS software
    • Preferably well connected through engagement in a Youth Climate Network
