    Computer Lab Assistant

    Reporting to: ICT Coordinator

    Job Purpose

    To assist the students in the computer lab and offer IT support to staff. It involves offering support to all the children and staff using the facilities, ensuring the quality of the equipment and learning activities meet the children’s needs. Gain awareness of the challenges being faced by the staff and students and make necessary adjustments to meet and resolve these challenges.

    Working Conditions

    Primarily the position will be based at Ngong Road Children’s Foundation offices currently located at Dagoretti Corner, Nairobi, but occasional travel within and outside Nairobi to meet with  vendors and partners.

    Core Duties and Responsibilities

    • Computer Training and support for primary and Sec students
      • Prepare and maintain learning materials for various instructional lessons (Training curriculum, lesson plans, scheme of works and Assessments)
      • Coordinating scheduling of students to access the computer lab in an organised manner and maintain records of attendance.
      • Administer computer training on Microsoft office applications and any other age appropriate computer training to student on a daily basis including school holiday breaks
      • Enhance creativity and problem solving skills of students by engaging them in creative activities such as designing Christmas cards for their sponsors among others
      • Monitors student activities while in the computer lab for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment that is conducive for learning.
      • Provide individual support to children who are either showing high potential, or require further help in their development
      • Conduct special bootcamp training on programming and web development for age appropriate  students
      • Support student to sponsor communication through the students portal
    • ICT Support
      • Maintains computer hardware, software and instructional material inventory and advice the ICT coordinator when their is need for replacement or subscription payments to ensure availability of this computer resources at all times.
      • Service, Maintain and troubleshoot IT equipment to ensure they are in good working condition at all times. This includes; dusting, cleaning, virus scanning, creating/clearing Internet bookmarks, defragmenting among others
      • Support staff in IT related issues, document production activities such as printing, scanning and photocopying as well as Salesforce Data management
      • Manage and protect the ICT assets, ensuring their utilization is efficient and effective
      • Participate in the ICT department’s operations and meetings, ensuring efficiency in the way the department works.
      • Support the ICT Coordinator in managing the expectations of NRCF Programme Manager.
      • Take initiative in making decisions to improve the systems, processes and procedures

    Qualifications Required

    • A diploma in ICT or equivalent field.
    • A Technical education background will be an added advantage
    • One year working experience in computer training.

    Salary:

    • The monthly all inclusive gross salary shall be kes 45,000, with an additional medical insurance cover subject to successful completion of three months probationary period

    Skills and knowledge Required

    • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
    • Computer hardware repair and maintenance skills
    • Programming skills in languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP
    • Proficient in website development and management using wordpress
    • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, adjusting communication style depending in group (Students, staff, management)
