    Consultant - Open-Source Contributor Communities

    Purpose of consultancy

    To contribute to frameworks and guidance for building and managing open-source contributor communities. The consultant will provide expertise in open-source community building and management within the Health Emergency Intelligence and Surveillance Systems Division.

    Deliverables

    • Create methodology for building and managing open-source contributor communities for WHO open-source products and projects. 
      Expected by: 31st December 2023.
    • Contribute to a detailed and comprehensive list of reviewed and recommended online forum platforms and tools for engaging contributor communities. 
      Expected by: 31st December 2023.
    • Develop guidance and best practices for creating engaged, inclusive, and respectful contributor communities. 
      Expected by: 31st December 2023.
    • Curate key metrics for tracking contributor community growth and engagement. 
      Expected by: 31st December 2023.
    • Contribute to the creation of policies to build inclusive and respectful contributor communities with channels for dispute resolution and corrective action. 
      Expected by: 31st December 2023.
    • Propose frameworks and processes for recognizing and rewarding open-source community contributors. 
      Expected by: 31st December 2023.

    Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

    Educational Qualifications:

    Essential:

    • University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields.

    Experience

    Essential:

    • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience working in open-source technology.
    • Experience managing open-source contributor communities.

    Skills/Knowledge:

    Essential:

    • Expert knowledge of open-source communities and experience building and managing nascent open-source communities.
    • Good understanding of online community forums, tools, and platforms.
    • Ability to plan both online and in-person community events and engagements.
    • Good understanding of software developers, architects, and other technologists and how they work.
    • Knowledge of public health technologies and communities or practice around global health.
    • Proactive identification, reporting and resolution/mitigation of issues and risks.
    • Political acumen and ability to drive change and improvements in challenging, inter-cultural and complex environments.
    • Excellent communication skills.
