Consultant Research Assistant at Aga Khan University (AKU)

Job Summary

Reporting to the Dean, Graduate School of Media and Communications, the Consultant Research Assistant will be responsible for Media Monitoring and Reporting, including compiling of reports on various media platforms with a focus on aspects prescribed by the school. 

Responsibilities

• Monitor assigned media daily, carry out analysis and compile observations covering Monday to Sunday;
• Identify the assigned media's achievements, failures and journalistic trends by either reading the platform or watching its TV broadcasts, giving special attention to current affairs programmes such as the news and talk shows;
• Ensure detailed, accurate and comprehensive reports are submitted to the co-ordinator within agreed deadlines;
• Prepare and submit a report of minimum two pages to the co-ordinator by Saturday noon, and an update report by 6 pm on Sunday;
• Develop a report made up of three parts: Issues and trends of the week and general observations as well as analysis of writing, production and editing quality; and
• Cite evidence (such as story headlines, dates and page numbers) in support of their comments.

Requirements

• Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Journalism from a reputable institution;
• Have at least seven (7) years’ hands-on newsroom experience;
• Must have demonstrable ability to write well in English;
• Must be able to work independently and within deadlines; and
• Must be well versed with content generation and packaging, new trends in media and building and retaining audiences.
