Consultant: Training of Trainers - Autocad and Revit at Swisscontact

Overall objective of the assignment

To build the capacity of electrical and plumbing trainers at Don Bosco Boys Town by delivering a comprehensive 5-day Training of Trainers (ToT) on AutoCAD and Revit, equipping them with both theoretical knowledge and practical teaching strategies that reflect current industry standards in the industry.

Specific Consultant Tasks

The consultant shall:

• Facilitate a 5-day workshop on AutoCAD and Revit, covering key topics: Introduction to AutoCAD and Revit, Drawing Basics and Editing Tools, Dimensioning, Layouts and 3D Modeling, Extraction of the plumbing and electrical wiring drawings from a mechanical/architectural drawing.
• Deliver basic theoretical instruction and practical hands-on training on AutoCAD and Revit.
• Support trainers in developing sample assignments, revision tools, and project-based learning content on AutoCAD and Revit.
• A detailed workplan for implementation during the Training of Trainers (TOT) session.
• Produce a 2-page report summarizing the training outcomes and recommendations.

Methodology

The consultant is expected to:

• Use participatory facilitation methods and group assignments to deliver the content.
• Demonstrate practical simulations using industry-standard AutoCAD and Revit software.
• Guide collaborative development of learning materials on AutoCAD and Revit.
• Facilitate reflective sessions for trainers to contextualize AutoCAD and Revit teaching in the program.

Key Deliverables

The consultant should provide:

1. A step-by-step training manual on AutoCAD and Revit for trainers.
2. Structured assignments and practical exercises co-developed with the trainers on AutoCAD and Revit.
3. Recommendations on how to integrate AutoCAD and Revit tasks into workplace-based learning.
4. A rubric for assessing apprentices' AutoCAD and Revit competencies.
5. A two-page training report summarizing the process, achievements, gaps, and next steps.

Time frame

The consultant will work for 5 days between 16th June 2025 and 20th June 2025. The consultant should submit a two-page training report summarizing the process, achievements, gaps, and next steps by 7th July. 

*NB: Please note that the timelines of the consultancy are subject to change as the project proceeds, subject to confirmation from the principal (DBBTTI), Project Manager and Swisscontact.

Qualifications Required

• A diploma or a bachelor's degree in the relevant field.
• Minimum of 5 years’ relevant technical professional experience in AutoCAD and Revit. 
• Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP) – for either AutoCAD or Revit is an added advantage.
• Strong  knowledge of electrical automation systems and industry-aligned teaching practices.
• Strong knowledge of Kenyan TVET programs and dual training models preferred
• Excellent facilitation skills.

Reporting

The consultant will report to the Principal Don Bosco Boys Technical Training Institute 

Ownership

DBBT will have the intellectual property rights of the paper generated from this assignment. However, the consultant may share in full or in part or a modified version of the papers, as appropriate, with the written consent of DBBT.
