    The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) is a public body established by the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) Act, 2016. It previously operated under the State Corporations Act (Cap 446) of the Laws of Kenya by Legal Notice Number 171 of November 24, 2011. The Act gives the NDMA the mandate to exercise overall coordination over all matters relating to drought risk management and to establish mechanisms, either on its own or with stakeholders, that will end drought emergencies in Kenya.

    Deputy Director, Drought Information (1 Post)

    Requirements for Appointment 
    For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: -

    • served in the grade of Assistant Director, Drought Information in the Authority for a minimum period of three (3) years or in a comparable and relevant senior management position in a large public or private organisation; 
    • Bachelors degree in any of the following disciplines: - Rural Development Studies, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, computer Science, Environmental Management, Developmental Studies, Agricultural Economics, Community Development, Information Science or Project Planning and Management from a recognized institution; 
    • Masters degree in any of the following disciplines: - Rural Development Studies, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, computer Science, Environmental Management, Developmental Studies, Agricultural Economics, Community Development, Information Science or Project Planning and Management from a recognized institution; 
    • Certificate in Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution; 
    • Certificate in Project Management from a recognized institution; 
    • Computer Literacy; and 
    • Demonstrated administrative and professional Proficiency in work performance and exhibited a thorough understanding of national goals, policies, objectives and ability to relate them to proper management of the Drought Management Sector.

    Method of Application

    Terms of employment
    Duration
    Appointment for positions in NDMA Grade 2 will be on a 5 years contract renewable once subject to satisfactory performance and the mandatory retirement age. Appointments for positions in NDMA Grade 3 will be on a 5 years contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance and mandatory retirement age.

    Remuneration
    The positions will be remunerated as follows;

    NDMA 2: Basic Salary scale: Ksh 177,300pm – Ksh 240,300 pm; House
    Allowance: Ksh 60,000, Commuter Allowance Ksh 20,000

    NDMA 3: Basic Salary scale: Ksh 139,500 pm – Ksh 186,300 pm; House 
    Allowance: Ksh 50,000, Commuter Allowance Ksh 16,000. Hardship Allowance will be 
    paid where applicable.

    Medical
    One will be a member of the Authority’s staff medical scheme and will be entitled to 
    medical benefits as per the scheme rules.

    Leave and leave allowance
    One will be entitled to thirty (30) working days leave per calendar year and a leave 
    allowance of 50,000/- per year or 30% of Basic Salary, whichever is lower.

    Gratuity
    For officers appointed on contract terms and upon successful completion of each 
    contract term, one will qualify for one-off taxable gratuity calculated at a rate of 31% 
    of your total basic salary. 

    Insurance
    One will be eligible for membership to the Group Life and Group Accident Insurance 
    scheme.

    • Higher Education Loans Board
    • Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission
    • National Police Service (Certificate of good Conduct)
    • Credit Reference Bureau
