    Deputy Manager, Risk and Compliance

    As the Deputy Manager, Risk and Compliance, your role will involve  the development, maintenance and execution of a comprehensive process for identifying, assessing, mitigating, monitoring and reporting on risks that may impact on organizational performance. In regards to compliance the position assists in ensuring compliance with rules and regulations of regulatory agencies and laws and that company policies and procedures are being followed, and that behavior in the organization meets the adopted Standards of Conduct. You will report directly to the Group Risk and Compliance Manager. The position also supports other departmental processes including the Group’s Environmental, Social and Governance agenda, business continuity management as well as corporate governance support.

    Responsibilities:

    • Support the Department in the implementation of the Group’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM Framework) including developing risk assurance processes to monitor, report on and mitigate risks across the Group.
    • Act as single point of contact providing a single view of risk and regulatory activities from all sources (e.g.) Operations, Business, Finance, etc.)
    • Proactively facilitate management of risk through close working with departmental managers
    • Analysis of the “front to back” process flows, advising on risks, appropriateness of controls, improvement needs and best practices
    • Ensure Risk and Control Self-Assessments properly covers risks and controls for area of responsibility; and coordinate testing and Corrective Action Plans as appropriate
    • Ensure oversight of corrective actions for control/regulatory concerns, including advising on development of actions plans, monitoring of significant issues with management and timely resolution and validating appropriateness of issue closure
    • Obtain, edit and consolidate data for quarterly reporting to management and the Board Audit & Risk Committees across the Group
    • Monitoring changes in the legal and regulatory environment, and taking appropriate action including overseeing the systems/processes that ensure the Company and its subsidiaries comply with all applicable codes, laws and regulations.
    • Reporting on the level of compliance with laws and regulations.
    • Liaising with external regulatory bodies and advisors such as lawyers and auditors.
    • Carry out regulatory trainings across the Group to ensure consistency, depth and coverage.
    • Support the department with Board preparations as may be necessary.
    • Implementing Board directives.
    • Dealing with correspondence and writing reports, ensuring decisions made are communicated to the relevant stakeholders.

    Requirements:

    • Degree in Finance, Actuarial, Insurance, Law, Economics, or other relevant field.
    • Professional qualifications in risk management from the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) or the Certified Enterprise Risk Actuary (CERA).
    • Other qualifications such as Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist, CISA, CRISC, CISI would be an added advantage.
    • A good knowledge of Data Protection laws.
    • A Masters degree will be an added advantage.
    • High personal integrity.
    • Great attention to detail and strong organizational and planning skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Good negotiation and leadership skills.
    • Good communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
    • Laws and regulations: Good understanding and working knowledge of applicable legislative and regulatory requirements relating to the insurance and asset management industry.
    • Stakeholder Relationship: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevant stakeholder relationships.
    • Business Analysis:Demonstrate expertise in the following areas:
      • Report Writing: preparation of formal reports to various stakeholders; produce reports with in depth analysis and interpretation of complex business issues; understand business context of report
      • Quantitative / Qualitative analysis: Carry our complex numerical analysis (e.g. trends, forecasts, scenario building); identify problems and formulate numerical analysis; Understand key qualitative techniques, their applications and be able to apply them to specific business problems; distinguish important and less important issues.
    • Communication:Demonstrate ability to tailor messages for different audiences, structure presentations, provide analysis and comment, introduce and summarize reports – drawing out the main points, make recommendations and chair working groups.
    • Ability to influence others through persuasion, understanding and reasoned arguments.
