    Director, Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (MNTD)

    The Director, Malaria & Neglected Tropical Diseases (MNTD) oversees an evolving portfolio of grant-funded projects related to malaria control and elimination. The Director will expand PATH’s portfolio in Malaria and NTDs. The Director represents PATH externally, serving as an external representative for malaria, and acts as the Director of the Center for Malaria Control and Elimination, which brings together leaders from across the organization’s malaria portfolio to pursue cross-cutting initiatives.

    Responsibilities:

    The Director will work with existing project and program leaders within the Programs and Innovation (P&I) Division and other divisions within PATH to develop and implement programs based on consideration of a broad range of internal and external factors, and an understanding of the relationships between various PATH program areas. Specifically:

    • Identify and oversee the development of responses to new funding opportunities.
    • Hire and develop key talent for the programs
    • Serve as people manager and mentor for project directors and senior management staff
    • Provide leadership and support to malaria and NTD teams
    • Review and provide oversight for project implementation and evaluation; review and approve all program reports and materials developed for public dissemination
    • Ensure that the programs meet or exceed donor expectations of quality and delivery
    • Ensure that all trials and studies comply with the highest standards of research ethics and medical science

    Programs & Innovation Portfolio

    Work collaboratively across the P&I division, including health areas in: Primary Health Care; Diagnostics; Product and Market Advancement; Digital Health; Early Childhood Development, and Epidemic Preparedness and Response to:

    • Identify and develop cross-program responses to funding opportunities
    • Drive business development activities to create a diversified and sustainable portfolio
    • Partner with program leaders to build cross-program competencies in surveillance, evidence-based interventions, innovation in policy and programs, implementation science, and operational research, monitoring and evaluation
    • Participate in the further development and evolution of the overall portfolio and strategy

    Cross PATH and External Representation

    Represent the PATH projects involved in malaria and NTDs with internal PATH partners and key external audiences, including:

    • Oversee leadership of the PATH Center for Malaria Control and Elimination bringing together PATH’s malaria capabilities and leadership across the institution
    • Model clear, open, and collaborative communication approaches in a dynamic environment
    • Collaborate closely with country directors to provide technical and scientific accountability and needed expertise for country-based work
    • Work with Product Development and other relevant program leaders to identify opportunities for collaboration across the platforms of vaccines, diagnostics, and devices/tools
    • Represent PATH externally, serving as a scientific expert, thought leader, and external representative for global advocacy and policy efforts for malaria and NTDs
    • Build PATH capacity in malaria and NTDs through development of cross PATH collaborations and recruitment of new technical expertise globally

    Leadership

    • Provide overall leadership consistent with PATH’s mission, values, and People Philosophy
    • Participate in panels, conferences and other events representing PATH in key stakeholder conversations internationally
    • Engage PATH malaria leaders in building a resilient program positioned to leverage the dynamic donor and global landscape for greatest impact
    • Model cultural and organizational agility internally and externally

    Required Experience

    • Advanced degree in medicine, public health, or other relevant field
    • Minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible leadership roles in the design and/or delivery of public health programs and research with a preference for experience in developing country settings
    • Excellent people management skills with commitment to building a shared vision of the future, setting standards and managing individual and team performance across multiple country sites
    • Excellent analytical skills and business acumen with the ability to deliver quality, high impact projects while providing value to donors
    • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic leadership and maintain clarity and focus of investments and action
    • Ability to work with people with divergent points of view and to respectfully navigate differences
    • Demonstrated ability to work with partners to achieve results.
    • Fluency in English
    • Available to travel nationally and internationally estimated at 30 percent
    • Must have legal authorization to work in the PATH country office location
