Director of People, Finance and Operations at Action Aid

The role will be part of a Global Management Team that provides leadership to achieve internal coherence and external impact. In addition, the successful candidate will bring initiatives and plays a critical role in strategic decision-making. This position works closely with the Secretary General and various Board to provide oversight and guidance on People and Finance related functions.

 The DPFO has five direct reports, the Head of People and Culture, Head of Finance, Head of Risk, Compliance and Assurance, Head of IT and Procurement and Operations Lead.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar senior ole, with outstanding numeracy and people management skills. Sh/e will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work across the team with an eye for detail.

Education and Qualifications

•  Significant overall management and leadership (7 + years) leadership experience on Finance and Operations;
•  Qualified accountant or an appropriate finance related qualification (e.g. CA,
• ACCA, ACA, CPA, CIMA) and/or with relevant and significant finance experience.
•  Member of an internationally recognised professional accounting body.
•  Good command of the English language both verbal and written.

Essential Experience  

• Ability to work in a multicultural context/environment, engage in social justice activism/advocacy and demonstrate innovative practices
• Minimum 8 years in senior international finance and/or operations management position as part of an Executive Directorate Team with Board accountability
•  Proven experience of managing/leading a large diversified team, with a focus on high performance and problem solving.
•  Substantial experience of strategic thinking, including identifying, analysing, problem solving and responding to opportunities and challenge.
•  Substantial experience of board governance, audit, treasury and risk management.
•  Substantial experience of financial planning/reporting and control of financial resources.
• Experience on decentralised global organizations;
• Essential Knowledge  A commercial acumen with, strategy and planning, financial and budgeting expertise and a flair for innovation.
