Director Solid Waste Management at Mombasa County Public Service Board

Job Description

• Providing overall strategic leadership and direction for solid waste management services in the county.
• Overseeing implementation of the county solid waste management plan, policies, strategies and programmes.
• Supervising and coordinating the functions of the deputy directors responsible for field services and recycle & disposal management.
• Coordinating the development of departmental work plans, budgets, programmes and performance targets.
• Overseeing integrated solid waste collection, transportation, recycling, recovery, treatment and disposal services.
• Monitoring performance of solid waste management services and implementing measures to improve service delivery.
• Overseeing management and development of solid waste management infrastructure, facilities, equipment and assets.
• Coordinating collaboration with relevant county departments, national government agencies, private sector, development partners and other stakeholders.
• Providing strategic leadership on waste reduction, recycling, resource recovery and sustainable waste management initiatives.
• Advising on solid waste management policy, infrastructure, service delivery and emerging sector issues.
• Preparing and submitting reports on solid waste management programmes, performance and service delivery.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental management, environmental engineering, waste management, natural resource management, engineering, public administration or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Masters in environmental science, environmental management, environmental engineering, waste management, natural resource management, engineering, public administration or a related field from a recognized institution.
• At least five (5) years' relevant professional experience in solid waste management, environmental management or a related field, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or management position.
• Demonstrated knowledge of integrated solid waste management systems and applicable legislation.
• Member of environment institute of kenya (eik) or a relevant professional body will be an added advantage.
• Completion of a strategic leadership development course lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
• Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
