Academic qualifications

• Master of Science Degree in any of the following disciplines: Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Surgery, Veterinary Public Health, Veterinary Anatomy, Veterinary Pathology and Microbiology, Applied Veterinary Parasitology, Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics, Occupational Health and Safety from a recognized institution.
•  Bachelor of Science Degree in Veterinary Medicines (BVM) from a recognized institution.

Professional Qualifications / Membership to professional bodies

• Registration and retention by the Kenya Veterinary Board
• Certificate in Senior Management Course lasting not less than 4 weeks from a recognized institution; OR any other Management Course from a recognized Institution
• Demonstrate high degree of professional and technical competence and administrative capabilities as reflected in work performance and results.

Previous relevant work experience required.

• Must have served for minimum period of Ten (10) years; Three (3) years of which must be in senior position within the Public Service or Private Sector.

Job Description

Job Purpose

• This position is responsible for directing, coordinating and implementing veterinary services programs and projects within the county.

Key Responsibilities/ Duties / Tasks

Managerial / Supervisory Responsibilities

• Direct animal health, animal control and veterinary public health services in the county;
• Coordinate the implementation of animal health, animal control, veterinary public health and leather development policies in the County;
• Manage the county directorate of veterinary services human resource capacity development;
• Manage fiscal resources for the directorate;
• Provision and improvement of administrative services;
• Supervise and Manage staff, programs and administrative functions for the directorate
• Staff Performance appraisal

Operational Responsibilities / Tasks

• Promote collaboration of stakeholder’s participation in animal health, animal control, veterinary public health and leather development service delivery;
• Coordinate veterinary research liaison and training Programmes in the county;
• Coordinate implementation of work plans and budgets for veterinary services in the directorate;
• Ensure compilation as periodic reports and preparing of performance contract for directorate;
• Provide technical guidance in all aspects of animal health, animal control, veterinary public health and leather development;
• Coordinate veterinary services technical forums, workshops and seminars;
• Provide and improve administrative links between the county headquarters and the field services and disease reporting between county headquarters and the National Directorate of Veterinary Services as required by the World Organization for Animal Health standards; and
• Participate in monitoring and evaluation of animal health, animal control, veterinary public health and leather development projects and programmes.
