    Drama Teacher

    Role Summary

    • The Drama Teacher will deliver engaging and rigorous Drama education across the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) at Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi – Senior School. The role focuses on developing students’ creative, performance and analytical skills through inquiry-based learning and practical exploration of theatre. The teacher will support students in devising, performing and evaluating dramatic work, while contributing to a vibrant, collaborative and internationally-minded arts programme.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Plan, deliver, and assess Drama lessons aligned with the IB MYP and IB DP Theatre courses.
    • Teach drama theory, theatre history and performance techniques, enabling students to explore diverse theatrical traditions and practices.
    • Guide students through the creative process including devising, scripting, rehearsing, directing, and performing.
    • Support students in developing and submitting high-quality IB internal and external assessments, including portfolios, performances, research presentations and collaborative theatre projects.
    • Integrate IB Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) skills, inquiry-based learning and reflective practice into highly effective classroom instruction.
    • Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to support students’ artistic growth, confidence and academic progress.
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessment data and reporting in line with IB and school requirements.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to contribute to interdisciplinary learning, curriculum planning and the wider performing arts programme.
    • Lead and support co-curricular drama activities, including school productions, performances and theatre showcases.
    • Uphold safeguarding, health & safety standards, particularly in performance and rehearsal spaces, and contribute positively to the AKAN ethos.

    The requirements

    Qualifications and Experience

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Education from a recognized university.
    • Experience in Drama, Theatre Arts, Performing Arts or a related field from a recognized university.
    • Experience in directing or producing school theatre productions and managing performances is highly desirable.
    • Candidates currently in Kenya will require the Teacher’s Service Commission (TSC) registration.
    • Demonstrated ability to teach in a diverse, multicultural, international school environment, with a strong understanding of student-centred, inquiry-based pedagogy.
    • 2 to 3 years’ experience teaching Drama/Theatre within the IB MYP and/or IB DP, or a comparable international curriculum, is preferred.
