    Driver I - 3 Posts

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Duties

    • Carrying out routine checks on vehicles;
    • Driving motor vehicle as authorized; 
    • Maintaining work tickets for vehicles assigned;
    • Ensuring security and safety for the vehicle on and off the road; 
    • Ensuring the safety of persons and/or goods in the vehicle;
    • Maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle;
    • Detecting and reporting malfunctioning vehicles; and
    • Maintaining records on repairs and maintenance.

    Required Qualifications and Competencies

    For appointment to this grade, one MUST have:

    Must Have

    • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Mean Grade D (Plain) or equivalent qualification; 
    • At least six (6) years of experience, three (3) of which should have been at the Driver III or its equivalent;
    • Valid driving license free from any current endorsements and valid for any of the classes of vehicles or plants which the officer is required to drive; 
    • Passed Occupational Trade Test for Drivers Grade III from Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or Ministry of Roads and Public Works; 
    • First-Aid Refresher Certificate Course lasting not less than one (1) week from St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized institution;
    • Passed Suitability Test for Drivers Grade III from Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology or Ministry of Roads and Public Works;
    • Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police Service; and
    • Defensive driving certificate from Automobile Association (AA) of Kenya or its equivalent qualifications from a recognized and accredited institution;
    • Proficiency in computer applications.

    Method of Application

    • Applicants with degrees from foreign Universities MUST attach letter(s) of recognition from the Commission for University Education (CUE) as part of the application document.
    • Only shortlisted candidates shall be contacted and shall be required to ask three (3) of their referees to share references directly to the University using a system mechanism that shall be provided.
    • Compliance with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya will be upheld and any form of canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification.

    Note that the Terms of Service will be either Permanent and Pensionable OR Contract, as shall be determined by the University Council.
