Engineer Energy Planning & Design at Safaricom Kenya

Reporting to the Manager, Planning and Design the position holder  will be responsible for  end to end ownership of planning and design of electrical & Mechanical systems in full consideration of energy efficiency and reduction in energy consumption ,energy automation initiatives as well as Health and Safety across the entire spectrum of network(Data centre, Hub sites, BTS sites)in the region assigned.

Key Responsibilities

• End to end ownership of planning & design and BOQ generation for Electrical/Mechanical systems projects.
• Energy project management governance to ensure conformance with data center standards and risk integration of energy projects into existing systems.
• Reduction of energy consumption and increase in Energy efficiency.
• Eliminate single point of failures.
• Drive planning and designs for energy systems digitalization and automation.
• Liaise with Data Center Ops team to ensure Capacity Management, Power and Cooling utilization and Data Center white and grey space management.
• Liaise with Data Center Ops team to ensure BCP tests, implementation of different standards and certification, Risk, ISO, Insurance and Internal Audits.
• Health and safety standards are maintained and improved during project execution.
• Data center fire suppression maintenance and cable management. 
• Powerline scoping, wayleave and design approval, quotes validation and project implementation management.
• Capex management: Energy equipment procurement, delivery, receipting and capitalization (CWIP).
• Vendor Selection for different Energy projects: Specifications drafting, EOI and RFP documents drafting and Evaluation for vendor.
• Vendor management, evaluation and appraisal for Energy equipment performance, vendors support and SLA performance and project implementation contractors.
• Participate in Energy Audits (Legal-Eppra and ISO).

QUALIFICATIONS

• A minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
• Should have demonstratable 5yrs experience working in Electrical design works in Data centers and mission critical installations in telecommunication environment.
• Should demonstrate expertise knowledge in powerline process and design rules.
• Knowledge of Data Center Management systems including, ISO standards, (OHS, EMS, QMS and EnMS), CEM/CMVP and accreditation is an added advantage.
