    Engineer Scada & Substation Automation Systems

    ENGINEER SCADA & SUBSTATION AUTOMATION SYSTEMS - (KET 6) ONE (1 POST) REF: KET/5/1C/40/159-B (9/2023) ON PERMANENT AND PENSIONABLE

    Reporting to Senior Engineer SCADA-Control Centres.

    Job Purpose

    This job is responsible for implementing, testing, commissioning and maintaining Substation Automation and SCADA Systems of all KETRACO Substations, to allow for both Monitoring and Control of the substations both from the local Substations and from the Central SCADA system at the National Control Centre in Nairobi and to support data analysis, decision making and 99.99% system availability.

    Key Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks

    • Reviewing Contractor Design and implementation of for Substation Automation Systems. Supervising of Technicians and Graduate Engineers during Operation and Maintenance of Substation Automation and SCADA Systems.
    • Supervising of the Contractor during configuration, Testing and Commissioning of Substation Automation and SCADA systems
    • Managing technical teams at site in response to system disturbances
    • Undertaking Design, installation, and implementation of for Substation Automation and Telecommunication Systems as per the set standards, specifications and works instructions.
    • Coordinating Scheduled and Breakdown/Corrective maintenance of Substation Automation and SCADA Systems works at site to ensure 99.99% Availability.
    • Performing testing and commissioning of new Substation Automation and SCADA systems
    • Evaluating substation database in readiness to commissioning substation automation systems
    • Conducting Data Engineering and integration of substation systems to the Central SCADA system
    • Receiving Electrical Permits to Work and Limitation of Access at site and manages ground technical teams when working in substation sites to ensure application safe working procedures
    • Testing all Substation Automation and Control Systems and compiles test reports for approval
    • Implementing Substation Automation system database design, architecture and data engineering in substation projects
    • Conducting Data Engineering and coordination of integration of substation systems to the Central SCADA system.
    • Preparing SCADA works reports.

    Qualifications & Skills required

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from a recognized institution
    • Registered Engineer with EBK as a graduate member
    • Registered Engineer with IEK as a graduate member;
    • Certificate of training in Substation Automation and SCADA Systems
    • Must have three (3) years relevant work experience

    • Valid Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA);
    • Current Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC); and
    • Current Report from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)
